Addictions Counsellor Jobs

Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to assessment, individual and group counselling.

Experience in planning, preparing and presenting educational material is an asset.

Comprehensive knowledge of mental health and substance use services and treatment protocols based on bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to client care.

Comprehensive knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice.

Broad knowledge of advanced counselling techniques.

Broad knowledge of bio-psycho-social-spiritual issues that may occur in response to changing health and alcohol and/or other drug needs.

Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated team of mental health and substance use specialists, clinical supervisors, and managers.

Documents and reports cases for clinical and administrative case management.

Facilitates daytox program modules to enhance relapse prevention skills and recovery efforts.

Provides community education and/or consultation to other agencies providing services.

Ability to identify own experiences and values in relation to the counselling role.

Motivates and assists clients in developing and reaching treatment goals.

Contributes to team building and program and policy development by participating in regular team meetings and peer review process.

Knowledge of counselling and group facilitation skills.

Knowledge of mental illness and substance use treatment.

Knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).

Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to mental health and substance use practices.

Advocates for patients to protect and promote their rights to dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy and access to information.

Basic knowledge of community resources and case management skills;

Knowledge of clinical assessment tools with experience conducting substance abuse assessments & mental health assessments

Experience and expertise with mandated clients;
