Summary
The Yard Manager will be required to act as the main contact for all field staff, yard staff, materials, equipment, and tools within the yard. Primary focus will include the continued development and implementation of inventory systems, analysis of trends, reporting on activities, maintaining the yard to ensure workplace safety, inspections of equipment and materials to ensure proper working condition and efficiently utilizing storage locations. Other responsibilities will include the scheduling of staff, tracking equipment, coordination of materials, management of resources and maintain accurate records for performance reviews.
Responsibilities
- Execute effective leadership through coaching, counselling, and constructive development as well as hiring, scheduling and managing day-to-day tasks with disciplinary action as required.
- Audit and insure all outbound/inbound materials are shipped/received appropriately and reported.
- Work with operation groups to develop a system to coordinate, track and provide trucking details for materials loaded daily and manage resources accordingly.
- Maintain property, including, snow removal, dust control, cleanliness and keep organized in a safe, professional manor.
- Determine methods of reporting, analyzes trends and distributes reports on a daily basis to all operation groups.
- Serve as main contact, in a 24-hour operating environment, for all field personnel, material, equipment and tooling coming in and out of the yard.
- Support the Health and Safety team by providing and encouraging a safe, clean, working environment for all staff and take part in the bi-monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and provides performance and status reports as required.
- Inspect all equipment and materials when returned to the yard; thoroughly check equipment to make sure it is in working condition and store materials in an orderly fashion.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment
- Be available from time to time for issue resolution regarding emergencies on a 24/7 basis
- Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training an asset
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Able to work well under pressure
- 2+ years in a hands-on leadership position within a similar environment
- Possess a valid driver’s license (DZ an asset)
- 5+ years’ experience in a construction and/or yard environment
- MS Office application skills a strong asset
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
