POSITION SUMMARY
To provide customer service excellence and comprehensive technology support to all users of the Arctic Co-operatives System, and to assist in the training of users of the system.
This position is responsible for providing technical support services for all Co-op System related technologies and IT services to include: help desk, desktop, and technical support for Member Co-operatives in the areas of computer systems and associated applications, Point of Sale (POS) equipment; telecommunications; networking systems; Internet and cable TV technology.
The Technical Specialist position will assist management with the formalization and continued development of departmental policies and procedures, and the integration of a pro-active methodology throughout all departmental operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
- Perform and/or facilitate the installation, repairs, and maintenance of supported technologies.
- Provide telecommunications and networking support to maintain and maximize the use of critical systems and communications in order to sustain the various business operations in the Arctic.
- Pro-actively monitor telecommunications, computer systems; and application related operations daily to ensure that all technology systems and associated applications are accessible, stable, and performing at proper service levels.
- Prepare and maintain documentation and user manuals.
- Assist with the development and implementation of pro-active frameworks to achieve excellent levels of availability and reliability.
- Assist with the creation, implementation, and ongoing evolvement of a problem reporting and resolution recording / tracking framework.
- Provide project participation in the evolvement of Co-op technologies and associated programs.
- Perform training on Co-op systems, as needed.
- Provide assistance to and backup support for the infrastructure network administrator position re: implementation, documentation, monitoring, maintenance, and system troubleshooting/ resolution.
- Travel to Co-operatives located throughout the Arctic as needed to support the installation/repairs, training, and annual program requirements.
- Interact with vendors in the pursuit of hardware/software offerings and/or support.
- Provide help desk and desktop support for Member Co-operatives in the use of hardware and software technologies deployed throughout the Co-op System.
- Record details of all support calls and perform the problem resolution follow-ups as per defined service levels.
- Monitor systems to ensure daily back-ups are performed as per the defined strategies and are readily available.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years experience in a customer service role providing technical computing support in a client-server Microsoft Windows / Linux LAN/WAN environment.
- Proven commitment to personal growth and development.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Project management experience is considered to be an asset.
- Experience with training and development of staff.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Previous experience working in a cross-cultural environment is considered to be an asset.
- Telecommunications, Internet, and Cable TV technology support experience is considered to be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of computer systems, networking and troubleshooting.
- Proven background on POS systems.
- Post-secondary education in computer science or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team.
- Must be able to work flex shifts.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft productivity software (Microsoft Office).
