Structural Engineer Jobs

Located in Ottawa, we specialize in non-structural seismic restraint primarily for the mechanical and electrical trades in Eastern Ontario. With an expanding client base and a steady increase in projects we are looking for a structural engineer to join the team to work on seismic projects and offer additional structural services.

ROLE

• Undertake occasional site inspections as required.
• Prepare quotes for structural work and assist estimator on M&E bid/spec jobs with structural components as required
• Design and review standard structural items such as wall and slab openings, housekeeping pads, secondary steel reinforcement for accommodating mechanical and electrical equipment
• Work with team to prepare stamped seismic design packages
• Designing support and stands for mechanical and electrical equipment and piping

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail;
• Eligibility for reliability clearance, eligibility for secret clearance is an asset
• Experience designing lintels, floor penetrations and other common structural components
• Minimum of five (5) years experience
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced team environment with competing priorities
• Experience calculating wind loading and seismic forces
• Working knowledge of the Ontario and National Building Code
• Proficiency with common structural engineering software
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; (English essential, French considered an asset)
• Experience sizing beams and designing supports for mechanical large equipment including cooling towers, chillers, roof top unit and piping
