We’re a small, fast growing remote team of around 35 team members from around the world, composed of dedicated and talented individuals with a core focus on engineering and product.

About The Role

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our team building and maintaining our core frontend services. We maintain what is essentially a visual programming language and solve interesting problems when it comes to real-time collaboration, optimizations, and design language.

This role requires strong knowledge of TypeScript and React, as well as best practices and patterns for designing and implementing frontend web services. You should understand how to organize code into modules: knowing what domain it should cover and the data it should own. Understanding and breaking down problems from product as well as engineering in order to create technical designs is crucial. You should know how to balance trade offs and justify decisions. What you’ll do

• Help architecture new services and extend conversational capabilities
• Mentor other team members, oversee code quality, evangelize best practices
• Implement new resources, APIs, and manage data flow between various systems
• Implement automated testing platforms and unit tests
• Own, expand, and provide input on architecture, testing patterns
• Assist in the development of frontend services written in TypeScript and React/Redux
• Discuss and create internal libraries and establish code patterns
• Work with product and design in planning meetings to choose strategy for the platform

About You

• Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
• Humility to learn, grow and share knowledge
• Ability to understand and break down problems into actionable tasks
• Familiarity with SQL & NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• An expert in backend engineering with Typescript and React
• Familiarity with high level clean code design ideas

Our Process

• Take Home Assignment — a small task to showcase your skills and understanding
• Technical Interview 2 — a 60-minute call with Josh (Engineering Lead) and Frank (Director, Engineering) for a dive into your assignment
• Culture Screening Call — a 30-minute call with Brett (Recruiting) to share more about Voiceflow, our team & culture, and learn about you.
• Technical Interview 1 — a 60-minute call with Josh (Engineering Lead) and Frank (Director, Engineering) focusing on technical breadth and depth
• Final Interview — you’ll have the chance to meet with Braden (CEO) and Ty Han (CTO) to learn more about the future of Voiceflow.

Logistics

• Location — we are located in Toronto and operate on a Hybrid model where our team comes into the office 1-2 days per week.
