Job Summary

The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in B.C. The Ministry is responsible for regional and province-wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.


The Mental Health Support Worker is a member of the Community Mental Health multi-disciplinary team. This position provides a range of mental health services to children, youth and families such as counselling support and education, contact with community agencies, and development of early intervention programs. The position works under the direct clinical supervision of a Mental Health Team Leader and may also receive clinical direction from a Child and Youth Mental Health Clinician.


You must be an effective communicator with a collaborative approach and able to demonstrate initiative and good judgment when establishing vital working relationships with staff, the community and other stakeholders. You are able to work effectively in a team environment, while also independently managing your own work.

Job Requirements


  • Experience working in child and youth mental health services.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Child and Youth Care


Preference May Be Given To Applicants With


  • One (1) year or more of experience working in child and youth mental health services.


Willingness Statements


  • May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
  • Exposure to regular travel in remote locations and in all (reasonable) weather conditions.
  • Ability to work outside of regular hours.
  • Opportunity to work with families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from occasionally working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.

Flexible work options are available;this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
