JourneyWoman, the original women’s solo travel publication, is seeking an intern to support our publishing and online marketing team with editorial writing and social media. This role is best suited for a student with a career interest in journalism, PR, digital media or another area of the communications industry. The role would begin in September 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023 and students must be enrolled in a third or fourth-year full-time journalism, media, communications or marketing program as of September 2023 to be eligible for this role, as part of the Career Ready program. We are hoping to hire two interns.
JourneyWoman ranks in the top 15 travel websites in the world, established in 1994. In the past year, we have expanded our Travel Directory, which includes hundreds of women-friendly travel businesses. This role will help create more awareness of our partners to travellers and help us attract new clients. It will include some editorial writing plus social media support, estimated between 10-15 hours a week. (Our directory is located at: https://directory.journeywoman.com/)
This candidate should have:
- Experience writing articles in a journalistic style
- A passion for and experience in travel
- Excellent writing skills (accuracy is critical in our profession)
- Experience with video, photoshop, Canva & graphic design
- Be creative, good time management and initiative - we want to learn from you!
- Creating engaging reels, stories and social media posts
Key responsibilities:
- Research and post relevant third-party content from our partners
- Work alongside our team to create editorial and social media strategies; write and create digital campaigns to promote our clients' tours and retreats (eg Reels, stories, engaging posts etc)
- Continually measure and report on social media effectiveness
- Help us build followers on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagramand subscribers to our newsletter (and possibly Pinterest)
- Interact with followers and potential readers by communicating and answering questions through our social pages as needed
Our ideal candidate is:
- **This role is part of the Career Ready program so you must be actively enrolled in a full-time program**
- Have strong interest working in a digital publishing and production environment
- Currently enrolled in a full-time journalism, media, communications or marketing program in Canada in fourth year, and has done an internship prior to this
- Experience and examples of social media or digital marketing projects (applicable coursework acceptable)
- Be familiar with social media publishing platforms like Buffer and Canva for design
- Be a self-starter, respond quickly and take initiative
