This is an outstanding career-growth opportunity for an experienced professional to join the Water Stewardship Group at Falkirk Environmental Consultants Ltd. (Falkirk) to fill the full-time position of Senior Water Resources Engineer/Geoscientist or Hydrotechnical Team Lead. We are seeking a motivated individual with a strong all-round consulting skillset and a focus on technical excellence, project management, and mentorship. The candidate will work well independently in a multi-location team environment. In this role, you will report directly to Falkirk’s Water Stewardship Practice Lead and have an opportunity to:

•Provide senior technical expertise on a range of projects in mine water management, hydrology, water resources, and modelling.

•Author and deliver high-quality technical reports, including signing off as a Qualified Professional.

•Build and lead a growing technical team of water professionals.

•Play a key role in business development and client relationship management.

The Role

As a Hydrotechnical Lead or Senior Water Resources Engineer/Geoscientist, your role balances a technical focus with management responsibilities, including:

•Leading projects on hydrological modelling, water management plans and conceptual engineering design work.

•Leading the surface water components of resource projects, including baseline studies, effects assessments, conceptual water management plans and monitoring reports.

•Managing projects and writing proposals, developing work plans and cost estimates.

•Working closely with the Practice Lead and providing operational leadership on team management and business planning.

•Designing and leading surface water monitoring programs and studies, and the execution of field programs (including oversight of subcontractors and other consultant teams).

•Authoring high-quality written technical reports in support of regulatory and permit management assignments.

•Client relationship development and business development activities.

•Preparing and presenting high-quality presentations to communicate project results to clients and stakeholders.

•Participating in a team environment, working closely with other members of Falkirk’s multi-disciplinary water stewardship team (including modellers, water quality scientists, geochemists, and data scientists).

•Collaborating with Falkirk’s other practice area.

•Leading the delivery of multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and apply high quality standards on project deliverables.

•Keeping abreast of changes to Canadian federal and provincial water quality guidelines and impact assessment legislation and practices, as relevant to the water practice.


Qualifications


Academic and Professional Credentials

•A minimum of 10 years of direct and relevant experience, preferably in the consulting industry or the natural resources sector.

•Registered Professional (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo) or ability to obtain a professional designation within six months.

•Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in engineering or geoscience (e.g., hydrology, hydrogeology, or related fields).

•Specific expertise in water resources engineering, water management, hydrometeorology, water balance modelling, hydraulic modelling and an understanding of water quality and aquatic sciences.


Essential Qualifications

•Strong technical knowledge in water resources / hydrotechnical engineering.

•Proficiency with one or more modelling platforms for hydrological modelling (GoldSim experience is an asset).

•Excellent technical writing skills, including in-depth technical reviews of others work to ensure reports are accurate and complete.

•Strong understanding of mining, mining-related environmental effects, regulatory drivers in the natural resources sector.

•Demonstrated project management skills.

•Ability to mentor and guide junior and intermediate staff, and team-building skills.

•Demonstrated experience building client relationships and winning project work.

•Demonstrated understanding of federal and provincial guidelines and regulatory requirements for surface water, effluent, and drinking water (e.g., BC ENV and CCME).

•Demonstrated experience in designing and leading field programs and studies.

•Demonstrated experience managing large datasets, analyzing and interpreting data, and assessing model projections.

•Ability to manage your own and your team’s time and resources effectively.

•Experience communicating the results of water-related technical studies (e.g., with stakeholder technical review teams and First Nations, provincial/territorial regulators, and the scientific/engineering community).

•Strong interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills.

•Willingness to occasionally travel and work in the field on projects as needed.

•A valid driver’s license.


Desirable Qualifications (considered a strong asset)

•Direct experience working in the mining/resource sector.

•Field experience.

•Experience with a range of hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools.

•Experience with GIS software.

•Programming knowledge (e.g., R, Python, C, VBA), including the development of code for water resources work.

•Experience with machine learning, and AI.

•Direct experience working for other natural resource projects, such as oil and gas, and/or renewable energy.

•Knowledge of Canadian or provincial/territorial environmental impact assessment legislation and regulations (i.e., Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012) related to water quality.
