Job Description
  • Neighbourly Pharmacy* is looking for a *Sales Clerk/Pharmacy Assistant *to join our *Rocky Mountain House, AB *location at *Alpine Drug Mart*.

The Sales Clerk/Pharmacy Assistant will assist the Pharmacy Manager/Front Store Manager with the day-to-day operations. Under a pharmacist's supervision, this role is responsible for performing specific dispensing functions outlined by provincial regulations and standards of practice. The Sales Clerk/Pharmacy Assistant will collaborate with others to provide a smooth customer experience and help promote the store throughout the neighbourhood.
  • The usual shifts will be Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm OR 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • 16 to 24 hours per week.
  • Responsibilities*:
*Sales Clerk*
  • Inform the store manager of all customer complaints, comments, and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.
  • Handle lottery and CBO tickets as per store procedures.
  • Handle telephone inquiries quickly and courteously. Avoid keeping in-store customers waiting.
  • Maintain the store's general appearance and make sure everything is clean, restocked, and well arranged.
  • Always keep busy and productive. When cashiering, identify tasks that can be performed between customers.
  • Develop product knowledge and learn about new products. Know product locations and store layout.
  • Maintain product data and inventory, and make sure the reordering process is simple.
  • Display all goods in the shop properly and arrange them so that customers can discover them quickly.
  • This position will include job variety, and the successful candidate will work at the cash register, stock shelves, and keep the aisle tidy.
  • Learn and utilize proper merchandising techniques such as shelf label placement, stock rotation, and facing.
  • Participate in the development and preparation of displays, windows, and seasonal promotions.
  • Use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult customers. Know whom to refer a customer to if they have a complaint.
  • Acknowledge and greet all customers with a smile and hello. Maintain a warm, friendly attitude toward all customers.
  • Maintain specific sections as allocated. Notify the store buyer regarding merchandise out of stock.
  • Request a cash pick-up when large sums of money are accumulated. Anticipate requirements for change before running out.
  • Pay attention to store security. Follow store policy regarding the handling of shoplifters.
*Pharmacy Assistant*
*The pharmacy assistant must always be under the supervision of a pharmacist. All dispensing functions performed by a pharmacy assistant must be carried out following provincial regulations and standards of practice.*
  • Regularly phone customers for unclaimed prescriptions.
  • Ensure that the original container, prescription container contents, and label are checked and initialled by the pharmacist.
  • Locate the medication, select the prescription container, and count/pour the medication.
  • Attach the label to the prescription container.
  • Receive a written prescription from customers.
*Perform other tasks as outlined by the pharmacy manager or staff pharmacists. To include:*
  • Maintain OTC/non-prescription sections, as designated.
  • All doctors’ calls and inquiries regarding prescriptions, copies, drug information, and poisons must be referred to a pharmacist.
  • Keep all areas of the pharmacy clean, neat, and professional.
  • Assist with third-party billing.
  • Set up a schedule for outdated pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist with inventory control.
  • Maintain stocks of pamphlets/consumer information.
  • Maintain adequate stock of pharmacy supplies.
  • Answer the pharmacy telephone, except for the doctor’s line, which should be answered by a pharmacist.
  • Assist with checking off and putting away pharmaceutical orders.
Qualifications & Skills
  • The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate physical activities such as lifting, bending, etc. throughout their shift.
  • The successful candidate must be able to handle cash with accuracy.
  • Ability to function for an extended period while standing.
  • Excellent product or service knowledge.
  • Professional image including a name tag and proper grooming.
  • Some customer service and cashiering experience is preferred.
  • Merchandising and retail experience are assets.
  • Due to this position's sensitive nature, the successful candidate must provide us with a Criminal Record Check.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage conflict and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and have experience multi-tasking.
  • Multitask and manage the demands of numerous clients at once.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with customers.
  • Strong computer and POS skills.
  • Mature and cooperative attitude.
