About The Role


As a Safety Advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of all personnel and promoting a strong safety culture within the mine. You will collaborate closely with operational teams, management, and safety committees to develop, implement, and maintain effective safety programs and protocols.


  • Local candidates only - no FIFO option
  • Start date: Immediate
  • 2 Month term with possible extension
  • 40h/w
  • Role based in Labrador City


Responsibilities May Include


  • Safety Communication: Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committees to promote open communication about safety concerns, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct routine safety inspections of the mine site, equipment, and facilities. Collaborate with relevant teams to address identified hazards promptly and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Safety Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate safety records and incident reports. Regularly analyze safety performance data to identify trends, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities.
  • Emergency Response: Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans for potential hazardous situations. Coordinate drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures.
  • Safety Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all mine employees and contractors. Conduct safety inductions for new personnel and organize periodic safety drills to enhance preparedness.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead and participate in incident investigations to determine root causes, contributing factors, and opportunities for preventing recurrence. Implement corrective and preventive actions to minimize the likelihood of accidents and incidents.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Act as a safety champion, inspiring a strong safety culture across the mine. Encourage proactive safety behavior and empower employees to report potential hazards.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Regularly review safety procedures and guidelines, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct thorough risk assessments for various mining activities, equipment, and work environments. Develop strategies and action plans to mitigate identified risks, and provide recommendations for safer work practices.


Qualifications You Will Need For This Role


  • Possess strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Completion of a background check and medical assessment satisfactory to the Client may be required
  • 7+ years of relevant experience within an operating mine
  • Applicants must have an unrestricted Canadian drivers license with a clean drivers record
  • Relevant safety designation
  • English is required, French would be considered an asset


Please note that you will be required to work in an industrial environment. This may include working at heights, dirty/dusty and noisy environments, and confined spaces. All personal protective equipment and site-specific training will be provided.
