Job Description

We're currently seeking talented, empathetic, and committed Respite Staff to work with our youth clients. The role offers an opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of children and young people, particularly those on the Autism spectrum. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work shifts during the weekdays, weekends, and early evenings through the weekday.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver life skills training in line with the established goals of the youth and relevant stakeholders
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards of practice within a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment
  • Promote behavioral change and personal growth among children and youth struggling to cope due to social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays
  • Provide basic hygiene care, including changing clothes and assisting with bathroom breaks
  • Engage with clients in activities, promoting socialization and offering emotional regulation support
  • Initiate activity groups, catered to the specific needs and goals of the youth
  • Ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment, providing age-appropriate activities with necessary adaptations
  • Assess physical and emotional conditions of clients, tailoring support and activities to their individual needs
  • Work within the youth’s community, utilizing local resources and programs
  • Possess the ability to work independently and with a team of professionals including families, healthcare professionals, and counselors


Requirements:

  • Must possess CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, Crisis Intervention, or TCI
  • Successful result of Criminal Record check
  • Experience and understanding of the harm reduction model
  • 6 months - 1 year experience working in a position with exposure to ABA techniques and strategies (preferred)
  • Degree/Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Science, Education, Child and Youth Worker, or related field
  • Solid understanding of and experience working with children and youth with physical or mental developmental disabilities
  • Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals
  • Previous experience with children and youth, highly energetic, enthusiastic, positive, creative, and have great play skills
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for potential client transportation
  • Behavioral Science Technology Diploma, Autism Behavioral Science Certificate, Registered Behavioral Technician certificate, or related (preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to developmental needs


Physical Requirements:

  • Activities such as swimming, hiking, and physical games
  • Ability to lift at least 30 Lbs, sit on the floor with children, run, walk at a fast pace and demonstrate energy and enthusiasm
  • Up-to-date CPR certification
  • Successful result of a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Significant lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
