Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Research Teaching Specialist III conducts specialized research on RIG -I like receptors, using judgement to adapt methods and techniques. May be responsible for the management of a small-sized laboratory area. Assists the PI with budgetary, training and administrative responsibilities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists in the preparation of grant applications for the funding of research activities.
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience in biochemical/biophysical and protein/nucleic acid work.
  • Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Assists in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of methodology and instrumentation involving protein purification, protein-ligand interactions, enzymatic assays, and fluorescence-based cellular work.
  • Assists with instructing and training of students, fellows and technicians in various techniques and procedures to develop the skills necessary to carry out assignments in the laboratory. May coordinate, supervise and evaluate the work of non-professional staff.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years experience in at least four (4) of the following areas within Biochemistry, Cell Biology and/or Molecular Biology (bioinformatics, DNA / RNA and protein gel electrophoresis, fluorescence/mass spectroscopy, molecular cloning, nuclear/cell staining and radiometrics).
  • Equipment specific to a BMB laboratory.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with moderate noise.
