Job Description
Summary Of Duties


The Pre-Anesthesia Clinic RN is responsible for the pre-operative assessment and optimization of patients undergoing a variety of surgical interventions. The primary focus of the RN includes physical, psychological assessment, and education regarding post-operative recovery, pain management, and other health teaching instruction in preparation for patients prior to surgery. The PAC RN must support the Philosophy of Person Centred-Care and the Mission Vision and Values of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The RN works closely with other members of the interdisciplinary team in the provision of care to each patient daily.


Qualifications/Skills


  • Current Ontario College of Nurses Registration
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Critical Care Courses strongly preferred
  • Current BCLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and ability to prioritize in a stressful environment
  • Venipuncture IV certification and ECG skills required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills required.
  • Demonstrated appropriate computer skills
  • Proven ability to promote Person Centered Care
  • In-depth knowledge of the effects of General and Regional Anaesthetics
  • Demonstrated commitment to Person Centred Care approach and principles
  • Must have recent, related PACU or ICU experience
  • Successful completion of Physical Assessment course is preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent physical, health and psychological assessment skills
