Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a QA Technician on a full-time, to join our team of skilled professionals based at our Calgary, AB Plant. This state-of-the-art manufacturing plant produces premium roofing shingles in a high-speed, continuous, asphalt shingle manufacturing process environment.
Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a quality plan to drive continuous improvement in plant performance and assuring that the finished product complies with company, industry, and government standards.
Responsibilities
  • Collates and analyses performance data and charts against defined parameters
  • Performs tests in the Laboratory on key parameters associated with the quality assurance of finished products
  • Support the development and implementation of a quality plan to drive continuous improvement in plant performance
  • Monitors quality impact of new production processes, methods, or equipment
  • Escalates quality assurance issues to the Quality team and Plant management on a timely basis
  • Implements ongoing quality improvement processes and procedures working with interdepartmental teams and with the involvement of the production employees
  • Ensures that the Lab equipment is calibrated and in good condition and communicates material and spare requirements in advance
  • Measures quality assurance metrics to opportunities for improvement, progress on goals, and accountability for performance
  • Identifies troubleshoots and drives resolution of production quality deficiencies and problems
  • Be able to lift 25 lbs. The person may be required to move a bundle of shingles with 60lbs on a trolley, this task is usually done with assistance
  • Works with shipping to ensure that outgoing products are sorted segregated, isolated, and downgraded as per disposition from the quality team
  • Monitors the quality of finished products in Real-time, resolves with the production team and escalates quality issues on a timely basis
Education
  • Diploma or Degree in a Science related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution is an asset but not required
Qualifications
  • Experience in an industrial process manufacturing environment in a quality assurance role with hands-on experience with quality management systems preferred
  • Experience working in a Laboratory environment and calibrating troubleshooting instruments will be an asset
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) and interpersonal skills

Schedule
  • The work schedule is flexible, and availability to work weekends, and holidays is required
