DUTIES :


  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health & Safety Program.
  • Will be required to carry or lift all library materials (such as books, DVD’s, equipment, etc).
  • When required, incumbent will assume responsibility for emergency situations in the absence of the manager; and supervise non-union staff and volunteers as required.
  • The successful applicant will be responsible to plan, assess, and deliver instruction and orientation programs to the public and staff, using information literacy skills in the use of resources including print and web related sources; train staff in the use of resources for reference and readers’ advisory; and train staff in service-related skills, such as readers’ advisory and reference.
  • Will promote library services through outreach and participation in community events, and cultivate community partnerships.
  • The incumbent will actively develop and maintain contacts with community organizations and agencies, and provide professional advice and assistance to community groups.
  • Safety requirements such as securing the property, including locking, and the unlocking of library buildings will be a requirement of the position.
  • Will perform other related duties as assigned
  • Will be required to participate in and provide leadership for system-wide initiatives; assume administrative responsibilities as delegated by the manager. Incumbent will assist with programming for groups of all ages.
  • Reporting to the Manager, Public Services, or designate, this position will assist in the planning and delivery of customer services for all residents of the service area, including collection development, readers’ advisory, and reference.
  • Incumbent will plan, coordinate, and execute library programmes and book talks; troubleshoot for computer hardware and software issues.


QUALIFICATIONS :


  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use business software and library computer applications, including searches on the Internet, as well as online databases;
  • Must have the ability and the flexibility to manage assignments and changing tasks within a team environment;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and organizational skills;
  • Fluency in a language or languages reflecting the cultural diversity of the City of Windsor is considered an asset;
  • Must have an ALA accredited Masters degree in Library Science and Information Studies or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of one (1) year related work experience in a library environment;
  • The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a sedentary level of work
  • Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver’s License is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills;
