Our valued client, a large Oil & Gas company are seeking Project Engineer to join their Calgary team on a long-term contract basis.
Role Description
The Project Engineer (PE) reports to the Manager, Projects and is accountable to the Project Manager (PM) for project specific deliverables. In this role, the PE will be responsible for managing engineering and technical disciplines needed to complete pipeline, and pipeline related facilities, project scopes.
They work directly with the PM to manage resources, budget, and schedule to deliver a successful project that is fit for purpose. The PE acts as a coordinating figure dealing with stakeholders across all areas of the project.
Summary of Responsibilities
· Support new pipeline projects, including design, planning, execution, commissioning and
startup.
· Coordinate pipeline scope design from the early development phase through to project
closeout.
· Manage the project design within budget and schedule constraints.
· Interface with internal and external engineering resources to develop technical and project
deliverables.
· Support the development and management of budgets.
· Identify and recommend opportunities for cost efficiencies and analyze contractor performance
and trends.
· Monitor, track and report on the project schedule, and collaborates with project controls and
other team members to manage change.
· Coordinate review and approval of technical deliverables .
· Maintain various Project Logs (Design Change Log, RFI Log, Deficiency Log, etc.).
· Identify and proactively resolve Engineering issues.
· Facilitate adequate engagement from internal and external stakeholders on technical aspects of
a project, including Operations, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
· Develop and participate in technical bid evaluations for material, equipment, and services .
· Ensure relevant construction work packages are developed.
· Provide on‐site construction support including the following:
o Respond to Requests for Information (RFI)
o Ensure construction meets design and Engineering specifications
o Ensure QA/QC documentation is signed off and uploaded in the project folders
· Support Operations during commissioning activities.
· Perform/support project close‐out.
· Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices/processes by monitoring industry best
practices and emerging trends, conducting research and analyses, and presenting
recommendations to senior leaders.
· Ensure compliance with clients and industry standards, codes, and regulations, including safety
and environmental requirements.
· Conduct site visits and inspections to inform design and construction, to ensure construction
and commissioning activities are performed in accordance with plans and specifications.
· Actively identify and mitigate risks and issues.
Qualifications
· Recognized bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
· P. Eng. Or P.L (Eng) designation registered with Alberta Professional Engineers and Geoscientists
(or eligibility).
· 5+ years of progressive project engineering experience.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as presentation skills.
· Have a solid understanding of the regulations plus the adopted codes and industry standards
that govern Oil and Gas facilities and pipelines in Alberta, British Columbia and the United States
(e.g., ABSA, AER, BCOGC, TSBC, ASME, CSA, OH&S, OSHA, etc.).
· Working knowledge, and project specific experience, on pipeline projects (including pipelines,
LACT’s, metering stations, pigging facilities, etc) which are both sweet and sour natural gas,
natural gas liquids (propane and/or butane) and condensate.
· Strong technical background in a variety of engineering disciplines.
· Experience with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Power Point).
· Experience with scheduling software (P6 PrimaVera, Microsoft Projects).
· Working knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards (or equivalent) would be considered an asset.
· Ability to travel to field locations.
· Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
· Legally authorized to work in Canada.
