Programmer/Analyst, Data Services

DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the IT Manager, Data Services, Reporting & Business Intelligence, the Programmer/Analyst will support, develop, test, and enhance a variety of on-premise and cloud-based Microsoft Reporting and Business Intelligence systems. Manage support tickets, troubleshoot production issues, conduct unit and integration testing, manage source control, and document solutions as required.
Technical Responsibilities
- Understand business processes and the underlying system data architecture
- Build and maintain business workflows and forms.
- Execute unit tests and assist with user acceptance testing of technical solutions.
- Identify areas of improvement and propose solutions (e.g., automating processes, improving data quality and integrity, optimizing processing speeds)
- Perform project work in adherence with project timelines.
- Work with external consultants on an as-needed basis.
- Gather user requirements and bridge them with technical solutions. Work collaboratively with Business Analyst as required.
- Develop and tune SQL queries for use in Reporting, ETL, cubes, and procedures.
- Provide end-user training on developed solutions.
- Fix application bugs and liaise with business owners to address master data issues.
- Provide user support for our national Sharepoint 365 platform (e.g. build, update, and grant user access to Sharepoint forms, lists, and sites).
- Troubleshoot and resolve report, application, and data issues.
Administrative
- Provide periodic status updates to the team.
- Practice effective and professional communication with our user community.
- Enter and monitor all issues/tasks using our internal Ticketing System.
- Create and maintain documentation and ensure all solutions are documented based on Sleeman Standards.
- Share knowledge of areas of expertise with other members of the team.
Requirements
Mandatory Skills
- Proficiency with SQL Server stack technologies
- Proficiency with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, etc.)
- Experience with Sharepoint and Workflow applications
- User engagement (running design and test sessions, troubleshooting calls, business relationship building)
Other requirements:
- Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
- Good problem solving, and time management skills.
- Minimum 5 years of experience building and supporting Microsoft reporting systems (including Sharepoint) with database and development experience.
- Effective communications skills (both written and verbal).
- Post-secondary education related to Software development and Application Support.
- Proficiency with Microsoft technologies including Sharepoint 365, SQL Server Stack technologies, Microsoft Power Platform, Visual Studio, Dev Ops, Office 365.
- Organized, logical, and detail oriented.
- Acceptable criminal check.
- Experience using Nintex or Microsoft Forms is considered a strong asset.
Working Conditions
- Flexibility to work in evenings and on weekends, as necessary
- Travel may be required on occasion.
