Process Control Technician
The Process Control Technician performs their duties as a member of the Côté Gold Mill Maintenance Engineering team, in close collaboration with other departments. The Process Control Technician will ensure safe, reliable, and effective operation and maintenance of Cote Gold’s process control system. They will assist in developing, calculating, designing, and scheduling process control system activities for Cote Gold. The Process Control Technician will participate in various mill projects and business improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and improve the process control system
Area 1

• Modify control system interlocks, permissive’s, alarms, and operator displays for safe and optimized process control.
• Work with control room operators, metallurgists, and instrumentation technicians to investigate and implement ways to improve operations.
• Assist field installation and provide start-up support including inspection of site assembly, general system checks and troubleshooting.
• Provide frontline control system support to maintenance, production, & engineering teams.
• Provide programming, configuration, and communication support for all Process Control System equipment.
• Evaluate operating processes to identify areas for potential improvement and make recommendations for optimization.
• Analyze process systems using current and historical data, to identify problems and opportunities.
• Assist in process modification projects in accordance with the change management procedures.
• Provide pre-commissioning and commissioning support.
• Analyze and tune process control loops.
• Provide support for the integration of external systems like packaged equipment PLC, MCC and VFD, including communication interface and I/O mapping.
• Modify control system logic to maintain existing functionality and develop new process control functionality.
• Provide support for Process Control System servers, network switches and firewalls configuration

Area 2
Maintain process control system assets.

• Support reliability engineering, maintenance, and asset management best practices.
• Assist the IT/OT department in maintaining cyber security for Process Control system computers, switches and servers.
• Maintain the safety, security, and integrity of process control systems from physical & cyber intrusion
• Perform preventive maintenance activities, audits, and patches to maintain the integrity of the process control system hardware and software components.
• Work directly with vendors and contractors to facilitate control system maintenance, hardware/software upgrades and expansions.

Area 3
Work with others in a collaborative environment to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.

• Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve milling processes, technologies and methodologies used for the processing plant.
• Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
• Keep abreast of trends in process control and impart to Cote Gold.
• Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
• Propose new methods to meet challenges of process control.

Directly accountable for ensuring IOC activities are conducted in an environmentally responsible manner. Demonstrate visible leadership on Health, Safety and Environmental performance at all times if in production environments. Be alert and observe, correct and report unsafe conditions. Develop, train and ensure all staff follow operating procedures and comply with all regulatory requirements. Ensure that work areas are in compliance with all of IAMGOLD’s Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction. Intervene as necessary, to ensure the safety of others in the workplace.

Job Qualifications
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications Or Equivalents

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Process Control or a related field

Work experience - Nature & Length

• Minimum of 2 years of related work experience in industrial environment

Additional Qualifications - Competency Requirements

• Must be proficient in creating control logic based on Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) drawings and control narratives.
• Working knowledge of AVEVA PI historian or equivalent historian database experience is required.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks
• Experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting SCADA (AVEVA System Platform).
• Working knowledge of electrical systems and instrumentation and proficient at troubleshooting process issues.
• Strategic thinker with high degree of rigor.
• Experience installing, programming, and troubleshooting PLC systems (Schneider Modicon, Rockwell ControlLogix, and ABB AC500).
• Experience with virtualized server environments (VMware).
• Experience configuring motor controllers (Schneider TeSys) and Variable Frequency Drives (Schneider/ABB).
• Working knowledge of Proportional, Integral, Derivative (PID) loop tuning.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Working Environment

• Short periods of concentration (i.e. less than two hours) without choice of action.
• Minimal exposure to disagreeable environment.

• Travel required at 0-20%.
