Job Description

Highlights of the job
We are hiring one full time, temporary (up to 11 months) Power Electrician 1 position working out of Edmonton, AB.
 
The Power Electrician 1 is accountable for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of apparatus specific to the Network system in EPCOR Electricity Distribution. This includes achieving the successful completion of Network apparatus annual maintenance plans. As the Power Electrician 1, you will work alongside the network, underground and aerial distribution teams and report directly to the Manager, Downtown Trades.
 
 
What you’d be responsible for
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing Network apparatus and equipment (e.g., transformers, protectors, Vista control cabinets, etc.).
  • Developing safe work plans and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Inspecting Network manholes, vaults and apparatus and documenting results to assist in the development of the annual maintenance plan.
  • Responding to trouble calls, troubleshooting and diagnosing technical issues with electrical equipment/apparatus in the Network Distribution System Secondary.
  • Performing related tasks in 65 cal. ARC Flash Suit (e.g., oil samples, protector maintenance & installing ARC Flash blast blankets) as per Network Vault Work practices.
  • Completing annual testing and oil sampling of Network transformers.
  • Providing switching and isolation on Secondary Network systems.
  • Performing fault locating on primary feeders and the proof testing of new feeder cables (V.L.F Testing).
  • Working in confined spaces with energized primary (15KV) and secondary (<600V) cables.
  • Updating engineering drawings and prints with as-built information.
 
 
What’s required to be successful
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook) and computer systems to track work, read prints and communicate information.
  • Willing and able to work comfortably in underground confined space environments, with energized high voltage equipment and in adverse climate conditions.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent level of secondary education.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with 6 or fewer demerits and the ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.
  • Demonstrable understanding of high voltage electrical Network distribution equipment, testing and environmental processes.
  • Journeyman Power System Electrician Certificate.
  • Protection & Control experience is an asset.
  • Clearance on background check requirements related to ARS CIP.
  • 3+ years of recent related experience as a certified journeyman Power System Electrician.
