Platform Engineer Jobs

Overview

DNAstack is looking for someone with experience in platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or dev-ops to help manage our software infrastructure and empower our software development teams. You will have the opportunity to work remotely or from our office in downtown Toronto.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will select, develop, and own the software platform that solves shared infrastructure challenges faced by all of our product development teams. Your goal is to maintain and extend software infrastructure that includes:

• Identifying and solving privacy and security gaps in our platform infrastructure
• Automation of deployment resources across all major clouds and Kubernetes
• Monitoring cloud costs and identifying potential savings
• Updating platform services (SQL databases, kubernetes clusters)
• Automation of “Day 2” tasks
• Continuous integration and continuous delivery software pipelines
• Rotating platform credentials

In this role, you will carry solutions forward from end-to-end, which will include tasks like:

• Developing processes (combining manual and automated tasks as appropriate)
• Writing internal documentation
• Researching and recommending existing software solutions
• Writing custom software tools
• Rolling out solutions and troubleshooting issues

Skills

A successful candidate must have some experience with:

• Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux
• At least one of the major cloud platforms: GCP, Azure, or AWS

A successful candidate in this role will have or be willing to develop these skills:

• Working with stakeholders
• Communication
• You will inevitably need to write small-to-medium sized scripts to facilitate automation of processes by papering over gaps in other software tools
• You will need to investigate third-party software and products for solving problems, and make recommendations based on the products and our needs
• You will need to work with our engineering team leads to identify requirements, and seek feedback while implementing solutions at appropriate intervals
• Comfort with Scripting
• Research
• You will need to make recommendations and decisions based on overall value to the organization; that means factoring in different kinds of costs such as subscription/license fees, human hours spent (one-time and recurring), and cloud resources consumed
• You will need to clearly communicate the rationale behind recommendations and document solutions
• Economic Thinking

• Bash and Python scripts
• Google, Azure, and AWS cloud platforms (in particular the similarities and differences in infrastructure features)
