Reporting to the Project Manager, the Planner/Scheduler is responsible for working closely with the operations group including a Senior Project Controls Lead on planning, scheduling, forecasting, and schedule risk management. They will ensure the project schedule is effectively managed through the various phases of construction for the project.
This role will be camp based with fly in fly out rotation. Camps are located near Regina and the other near Prince George. Working a shift of 14 days on, 7 day off, flights from Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver will be provided.
What You Will Be Working On
  • Participate in the development of WBS and help ensure project coding is effectively used for all applications.
  • Ensure internal and external deadlines are met consistently.
  • Assist in the preparation of various levels of project reports to meet project needs.
  • Conduct or assist in performance measurement and associated schedule trends.
  • Identify and analyze schedule variances and recommend associated corrective actions. This may include the development of a project specific schedule change management process or aligning to a project approved process.
  • Ability to utilize drawings and specifications as a basis for structuring the project schedule is a nice to have skill.
  • Assist to update the project schedule or portions of it on a weekly basis, by analyzing work performed in the field and communicating with the operations group to obtain schedule update information (Actual Start/Finish Dates, Forecasted Start/Finish Dates, Actual Progress, Changes to Schedule Logic, Additional Scopes of Work).
  • Assist the project team to present the project schedule to the client.
  • Assist the Project Manager to measure progress and review the subcontractor’s progress.
  • Assist the regional teams setting pursuit strategies related to project schedules as directed.
  • Assist in coordinating schedule inputs from all parts of the project.
  • Provide analysis of schedule data to identify key project issues.
What we are Looking For
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Technology or a combination of equivalent skills and field.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Engineering and commercial construction experience.
  • Ability to develop and assess change order impacts to baseline schedule.
  • Ability to read engineered drawings to perform spot checks, quantity surveys and small estimates.
  • Knowledge in the application of earned value, critical path analysis and risk assessment is an asset.
  • Exposure to and ability to utilize Power BI for dashboard reporting.
  • Knowledgeable of scope control and change management and ability to incorporate directed changes into schedule baseline.
  • Ability to articulate change order impacts to project master schedule.
  • Ability to produce Progress Curves, Commodity progress and Manpower Analysis.
  • Familiar with construction contracting and the scheduling implications of contract terms.
  • Knowledgeable in earned value methodology.
  • 1-5 years' experience within a project controls group, construction management and scheduling.
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to work well independently and with diverse personalities and work force.
  • Oracle Primavera V19, Synchro 4D, Microsoft Project and Excel skills.
  • Experience in all aspects of project scheduling including logic development, progress measurement, schedule impact analysis, resource loading/leveling, schedule risk analysis, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups.
  • Working knowledge of multi-discipline construction activities.
