Job End Date
Must be available to work weekdays and weekends evenings in addition to occasional day shifts. The successful incumbent must be available 37.5 hours per week during the first 4 months in order to complete the mandatory training requirements.

Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Parking Compliance Officer is responsible for the daily enforcement of the UBC Traffic and Parking rules and issuing citations to vehicles parking in violation of the rules.
The Parking Compliance Officer acts in accordance with UBC Traffic Parking Rules. Activities include issuing parking citations, arranging for impounding vehicles, reporting unusual parking incidents and activities, performing traffic control duties and assisting the community with their parking needs.
Organizational Status
Reports to a Parking Supervisor or Parking Operations Manager as required.
Work Performed
  • Reports on unusual parking incidents and activities and follows up as required.
  • Ensures equipment operability; performs basic equipment maintenance duties including inspection and troubleshooting.
  • Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.
  • Issues parking citations using a hand held ticket writer to vehicles parked against the UBC Traffic Parking Rules and tracks facility utilization in the ticket writer.
  • Arranges for impounding vehicles when parked contrary to the UBC Traffic Parking Rules. Releases impounded vehicles and accepts payment.
  • Performs traffic control services and assists during special events and shifts where there is a high volume of parking customers. Aids in the informing customers of changes in parking terms or conditions and directs drivers as needed. Remains current on special events and changes to parking on campus.
  • Ensures clean, safe and functional facilities. Performs facility inspections and custodial duties, record and report anomalies to manager.
  • Provides information about the campus and UBC Traffic Parking Rules to faculty, staff, students and visitors to the University in a courteous and professional manner. Maintains high levels of customer service.
  • Checks to ensure proper use of parking permits.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Misapplication of UBC Traffic Parking Rules could result in unnecessary ticket issuance and impounds and has a negative impacts to Parking Services, the University and the community.
Supervision Received
Direction is provided by the Parking Supervisor in issuing daily routes and setting daily priorities. Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Any unusual incidents and activities are reported promptly to supervisor.
Supervision Given
May give direction to employees at lower classification levels to guide smooth operation of daily parking activities and special events.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, plus one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to deal effectively with all user groups within the community.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must have a valid BC drivers license.
  • Experience with cash handling an asset.
  • Customer service experience dealing directly with the public required.
  • Ability to effectively deal with difficult people.
  • Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner.
  • Ability to effectively resolve client complaints in a calm, non-confrontational manner, and by exercising sound judgment.
  • Must be able to carry out work assignments under minimal supervision.
  • Must be in good physical condition necessary to perform the requirements of the job, including walking or standing for all or most of the shift.
