We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as an Outdoor Nature Preschool Group Leader. As the Group Leader, you will be responsible for providing engaging and educational outdoor experiences for preschool-aged children. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children, preferably in a childcare or preschool setting. The ideal candidate should have a deep appreciation for nature, be comfortable working in all kinds of weather, and possess strong leadership and organizational skills. This is a part-time position offering 20 hours per week, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with a competitive hourly rate of $25.
Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate outdoor nature-based activities and lessons that align with the preschool curriculum, fostering children's curiosity, creativity, and connection with the natural world.
2. Lead and supervise a small group of preschool-aged children (typically 3-5 years old) during outdoor excursions, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
3. Implement age-appropriate lesson plans, incorporating nature exploration, sensory experiences, storytelling, arts and crafts, and physical activities.
4. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social-emotional development, teamwork, and respect for nature and one another.
5. Encourage children to develop independence, problem-solving skills, and a love for nature through hands-on experiences and guided exploration.
6. Foster positive relationships with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on their child's progress, activities, and areas of interest.
7. Collaborate with other staff members to maintain effective communication and ensure a cohesive learning experience for the children.
8. Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by following established protocols, including emergency procedures and risk management strategies.
9. Assist with basic administrative tasks, such as maintaining attendance records, preparing materials, and organizing outdoor equipment.
10. Continuously evaluate and assess the effectiveness of activities, adjusting plans as needed to meet the developmental needs and interests of the children.
11. Stay updated on best practices in early childhood education and nature-based learning, participating in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a childcare or preschool setting.
2. Passion for outdoor education and a strong appreciation for the natural world.
3. Ability to work in various weather conditions, including rain, wind, and cold temperatures.
4. Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to guide and inspire children in outdoor learning experiences.
5. Strong organizational and time management skills, ensuring smooth transitions and efficient use of outdoor time.
6. Knowledge of early childhood development and the ability to create developmentally appropriate activities.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
8. Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain certification).
9. Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs and dynamics of an outdoor preschool program.
10. Must pass a criminal background check and provide references from previous childcare-related positions.
