- Two (2) year College Diploma in Chemical Engineering Technician, Civil Engineering Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician, Environmental Engineering Technician, and/or Mechanical Engineering Technician
- Valid Wastewater Treatment Class II Licence and Wastewater Collections Class II Licence from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC)
- Three (3) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities, including one (1) year of experience as an Operator-in-Training (OIT), and two (2) years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Class I Operator and/or Wastewater Collections Class I Operator within a Class II, III, or IV Wastewater Treatment Facility and/or Wastewater Collection Facility
- Intermediate computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, and Word), computerized maintenance management systems, integrated management systems, and SCADA systems
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Working knowledge of health and safety protocols and procedures related to environmental bio-hazards
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
- Working knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment and collection Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) Certificates of Approval
- Intermediate interpersonal, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, time management, recordkeeping, and flexibility/adaptability skills
- Use reason and judgment to develop conclusions and/or solutions to problems
- Deal with contacts in a courteous and efficient manner to promote a high standard of public relations at all times
- Lake Simcoe Protection Act (LSPA)
- Nutrient Management Act (NMA)
- Read, interpret and apply wastewater treatment and collection MOECC Certificates of Approval
- Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA)
- Availability to work a rotating shift schedule, including day, afternoon, night and/or weekend shifts and shifts varying in length
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation, including but not limited to the following:
- Availability to work outside of scheduled work hours to perform standby, overtime and/or emergency response duties
- Environmental Protection Act (EPA)
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*
- Medical documentation to confirm medically fit to wear a respirator
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing
- Please note that this is a requirement for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Procedure. Existing employees will be grandparented from this requirement.
- Hourly Pay Rate: $33.79 to $40.50 per hour
- Pay Level: Level 6
- Yearly Salary: $70,283.20 to $84,240.00 per year
