Role


The purpose of this job is to lead and manage the replenishment buying, customer fill rates, inventory DSO, inbound cases per pallet efficiencies, aged stock inventory management, buying involved shrink, costing integrity of our SKU base, vendor relations, pricing and other merchandising projects as assigned. This position is also responsible for the supervision of all procurement activities.


Role Responsibilities


  • Accountable for the administration of the accurate and timely costing of all items within the system for all categories.
  • Inventory management, including maintaining inventory turns to budget, product shrink to site plan, processing new product request forms, maintaining accurate information of codes (contract code management, keeping codes active, restricted and/or inactive for accuracy), product pricing for contracts, reviewing purchase order inquiry reports, holding vendors accountable for follow up and coordinating with the Operations teams to ensure that warehousing issues and efficiencies are factored in the purchasing decision.
  • Manage a small team of direct reports within the Merchandising department, develop and support high performing talent through hiring, scheduling, performance coaching, and career management practices.
  • Direct procurement and overall procurement supervision, including entering and maintaining all purchase orders including additions, deletions and price changes, receiving and documenting all PO confirmations, tracing and expediting outstanding PO’s, reviewing stock status, daily and weekly maintenance regiments, unallocated future order inquiry and special order product requirements, consideration of code dated inventory and transferred product, negotiating efficient and timely delivery or pick up of products and ensuring product quality standards.
  • Manage vendor relationships at a high level and ensure growth and profitability within each category segment.
  • Ensure proper inventory levels and set direction and guidance for product specification and aging requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with all members of the Merchandising and Marketing teams on assigned projects to increase and enhance the efficiencies and profitability of the Region.
  • Train and mentor the procurement staff including goal setting and metrics attainment.
  • Work with vendors to enhance product mix through new items or better pricing.
  • Ensure new vendor set up accuracy along with yearly management of HHA, COI, LOG, third party audit certificates.
  • Ensure product specification are maintained in the database.
  • Assist FSQA on product audits as needed.
  • Deliver cost savings or cost avoidance with skillful utilization of market and industry knowledge.
  • Maintain a high level of communication between the procurement function and all areas of the Region including Sales, Operations, Merchandising, Logistics and Finance.
  • Work with Operations, FSQA and Sales teams to maintain and enhance service levels standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About You)


  • Knowledge of Distributec an asset.
  • Intermediate to advance proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to provide and receive direction
  • Negotiation - Effectively exploring alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required (travel up to 20%).
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing or related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience with at least 3 of those years in a leadership capacity in a procurement/purchasing related role.
  • Experience in foodservice purchasing, logistics, or distribution is an asset.
