Job Description
Come work as a Mental Health Clinician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!


Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Mental Health Clinician with a Master's Degree in a Social Work or Clinical Counseling Discipline to join the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) team at the Goldcorp Centre for Mental Health in Vancouver, BC.


As a Mental Health Clinician with Adult Early Psychosis Intervention, you will


  • Establishes and maintains a client-centered therapeutic relationships based on trust with clients and their families;
  • Provides individual, family, and group, counselling, and psychoeducation, according to a variety of theoretical therapeutic models and best practices;
  • Provide comprehensive mental health and psychosocial assessment and treatment services for families of individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders (i.e. mental health and substance use).
  • Provide comprehensive clinical and consultative services (assessment, outreach, treatment, referrals) to youth and young adults who are experiencing first episode or early psychosis in mental health crisis, and their families.
  • Participates in case conferences/meetings with clients, family, service providers and members of the multidisciplinary team; and
  • Provide evidence based treatment services including biopsychosocial assessments, individual, family and group counselling/therapy services, and psycho-education according to Provincial EPI Standards and Guidelines.
  • Collaborates and provides clinical support to colleagues to meet the needs of the client population serviced and to provide integration and continuity across the care continuum.


Education & Experience


  • Current full registration with applicable regulatory College or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body or association, as applicable.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a multi-disciplinary psychiatric outpatient/community setting providing individual, family, and group therapy to clients and families with a variety of mental disorders (including early psychosis, substance use and concurrent disorders) or an equivalent combination of post-graduate education, training and experience. Experience in working with the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) clients is an asset.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Clinical Counseling.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License. Local area travel may require the use of a personal vehicle.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other facilities and community resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, problem solve, and to deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychopharmacology (indications and side-effects).
  • Demonstrated understanding of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented Care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family therapy principles and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform psychosocial assessments and provide treatment planning and care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Early Psychosis Intervention.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapeutic and counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychoeducation principles and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental illness and treatment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concurrent disorders (ie. substance use and mental health) treatment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess clients at risk and knowledge of appropriate acts (i.e. Mental Health Act) as it relates to the rights of clients and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and their families, colleagues, physician, and other health care staff, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in family therapy with diverse families (i.e 2SLGBTQ+ families, immigrant/ refugee families)


The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
