Reporting to Tourism PEI’s Director of Operations & Industry Investment, this position will lead all aspects of operations for PEI Provincial Parks across the Island including overall Parks strategy, staffing, repairs & maintenance, capital projects, operational budgets, revenue generation, price setting, public complaints as well as strategic advice and insight into the longer term operations.

PEI Provincial Parks include eight (8) campgrounds with day use parks, twelve (12) stand-alone day use parks, nine (9) lifeguarded sites, as well as the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park with a day use park.


The position is also responsible for creating and fostering a positive work environment and culture for frontline employees so they can offer visitors a positive experience while visiting one of our sites.


Duties will include:

  • Problem solving operational issues and visitor complaints within critical timelines;
  • Manage the development and delivery of quality day park program delivery;
  • Execute operations budget activities;
  • Ensuring park operations adherence to the Tourism PEI Act, Tourism Industry Act and Regulations, Recreation Development Act, Trails Act and the National Parks Act;
  • Complete performance reviews, and investigate staff complaints and workplace accidents;
  • Lead all HR activities including HR planning, training and development and succession planning;
  • Other duties, as required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Provincial Lifeguard Coordinator in the development and delivery of the Lifeguard Service within the Provincial Park system;
  • Collaborate with and manage intergovernmental partners and external vendors to ensure park facilities and assets are operational;
  • Manage campground site visitor booking system, Aspira, to ensure accuracy and visitor satisfaction;
  • Lead regional supervisory staff on the operation of the Provincial Park Campgrounds, day use parks and Lifeguard Services, and development and assignment of Park objectives and associated workplans for each location;
  • Capital budget planning including development of a five-year plan, allocation of internal HR resources and hiring of third-party resources to complete capital initiatives, and tracking and reporting on capital budget activities;
  • Identify and address any public liability issues related to Park program or service delivery;
  • Ensure park conditions are maintained and operated to a high standard in the interest of tourism and the local community and establish policies/procedures accordingly;
  • Determine seasonal and long-term operational priorities;
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Director on strategic planning for future growth and revenue generation through event and activity expansion; and


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work requirements
  • Experience in public and media relations
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • University degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics or a related field
  • Extensive experience in managing revenue generating assets/facilities, managing or supervising employees, and in budgeting or capital planning;
  • Strong organizational skills and judgment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral


Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the PEI tourism industry considered an asset
  • Experience working with, and interpretation of provincial acts, regulations and policies considered an asset
