Responsibilities


As a Manager Engineering, you will have three key areas of responsibilities; People Leadership, Asset Management and Enabling Delivery.


People Leadership


  • Lead a team of engineers and technology professionals through the delivery of complex multi-squad cross-cutting initiatives.
  • Develop the skills and growth of team members through mentorship, training, and providing opportunities within various initiatives.
  • Hire technology team members.
  • Develop team engagement, and handle performance issues in a diligent and appropriate manner.
  • Perform reviews, conduct tactical and stretch goal setting.


Asset Management


  • Develop, maintain and implement the assets technical roadmaps in alignment with the organization’s technology strategy.
  • Develop and refine patterns for documentation to ensure ongoing maintenance of technical knowledgebase and adherence to standards.
  • Own the overall health of the technical asset(s) in its entirety.
  • Partner with Product collaborators on prioritization.
  • Handle, resolve, and escalate issues and risks as applicable.
  • Management and governance for technology vendors and support the business for technical subsets of business assets.
  • Evaluate and define existing technology standards to ensure compliance with program-level requirements.


Enabling Delivery


  • Deliver new products, technical enhancements, and services using a flexible and iterative approach.
  • Ensure progress against important breakthroughs.
  • Active participant in planning discussions, providing input on technical solutions, decision making, and direction.
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers, Product partners, and external vendor partners on interdependent technology work.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies as appropriate.
  • Point of escalation for technical issues if cannot be solved by squad members


What Are We Looking For


  • Awareness of cloud technology, and experience implementing in cloud infrastructure (Azure preferably)
  • Collaborative attitude, willingness to work with team members; able to mentor, participate in, support or drive design sessions.
  • Good verbal and written communication; able to efficiently articulate a technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes.
  • Responds well to ambiguity and works efficiently to clarify situations and outcomes.
  • Understanding of a range of DevOps tools and their objectives.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Constantly learns from both success and failure.
  • General knowledge of a wide variety of technologies.
  • Strong technical skills and experience leading software delivery.
  • Financial institution experience is an asset.
  • Ability to handle and lead multiple initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Experience leading people within a technology space is an asset.
  • Good problem-solving, risk assessment, and decisions making skills that enable you to lead through challenging obstacles.

Salary & Benefits


The annual base salary for this role is listed below.


Primary Location


Waterloo, Ontario


Salary range is expected to be between


$89,950.00 CAD - $167,050.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
