Humber Libraries is hiring resourceful and collaborative Part-Time Research Help Technicians to provide high-quality reference support services to students, faculty, and staff at Humber’s North (2 positions) campus library.

What You Will Do
Reporting to the Manager, Learning Services, Part-Time Research Help staff deliver high-quality reference service by responding to questions and recommending resources, services, and solutions to library users both in-person, over the phone, and virtually.
This position requires a pro-active and well-organized individual, with highly developed oral and written communications skills, a high level of competence with Microsoft software and emerging technologies, and a commitment to supporting a welcoming, efficient, and inclusive library culture. The position requires the successful candidate to work collaboratively with the library team, (including Librarians, Library Technicians, Circulation Clerks, and student assistants) to support student success. As a member of the library's Research Help team, the incumbent is expected to participate in regular communication with the Research Help team via Microsoft Teams, and review training and team meeting materials on a weekly basis. As such, excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills are regularly employed. Part-Time Research Help staff are also occasionally assigned special projects, such as technical services projects, research support projects. Staff are also expected to contribute to library committees and participate in library events (offering library tours, staffing information booths, etc.)
The successful candidate will provide services to students and faculty on a part-time basis during daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Shift schedules are determined based on staffing need and library hours, which are re-evaluated each semester. Work shift changes as required.

What you bring to the role:
Library Technician Two-Year Community College Diploma
Experience
One year library experience or one-year customer service experience in a public service environment.
Specific skills required for this role include: a working knowledge of complex library resources and reference functions; demonstrated ability to acquire subject expertise quickly to provide effective reference service; an aptitude for technology, both hardware and software. Knowledge of ExLibris Primo and Alma library circulation functions are an asset.
To support success in this role, the ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in a demanding public service environment; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; and a demonstrated ability to communicate and enforce policy with patience, diplomacy and empathy is required.
The successful candidate must be sensitive to the needs of the diverse community at Humber College and fulfill their duties in support of the Humber Libraries Service Charter, promoting a welcoming, respectful, and accessible environment and interacting equitably with all students, faculty and staff.
