The School of Arts and Sciences, Department of American Studies seeks lecturers to teach undergraduate courses in American Studies. Specific courses to be taught will be determined by the department each semester. Courses may be introductory surveys or upper-level courses focused on specific themes or topics. As the instructor of record, the candidate is responsible for preparing the course syllabus, delivering lectures, and leading discussions, assessing student work in a timely manner, holding weekly office hours, responding to student e-mails, and submitting final course grads to the registrar.
Some courses will be offered in a range of modalities beyond traditional settings, including hybrids, online, satellite, and/or off-campus locations.

Master’s degree in American Studies or related field required; Ph.D. in American Studies or related field preferred. Previous teaching experienced preferred.

Overview
American Studies is the interdisciplinary study of American culture. The Department features distinguished scholars who are dedicated teachers. Our diverse faculty research and teach in literature and history, folklore and popular culture; race and ethnic studies; law and belts to rock ‘n’ roll, from urban fashion to 9/11 memorials, American, American Studies examines a range of materials to emphasize integrated and culture. approaches to the study of American history and culture.
Our faculty is dedicated to helping you learn to write well, to speak articulately, and to think analytically and creatively, These are skills necessary for success in any field. We are a small but successful department, and we give students a great deal of individual attention. We try to maintain a small-college atmosphere within our enormous state university
Statement
American Studies majors go on to attend graduate schools and pursue careers in law, medicine and allied health professions, business, education, journalism government, history, literature, and other social sciences and humanities, as well in writing, film, theater, television, and the arts.
