Job Description

TheAlbertaAssociationofImmigrantServingAgencies(AAISA)isanon-profitumbrellaorganization representing agencies that provide resettlement, settlement, and integration servicesto newcomers in the province of Alberta. Since 1980, we have been working to build the sector’scapacity to better serve newcomers by fostering collaboration, professionalization, and member-driven researchandpolicywork.


The position of Language Coordinator is responsible for providing tailored support to languageservice providers, through activities that promote coordination, information sharing, and capacitydevelopment across the system of services. Through its role, the Language Coordinator will buildunderstanding of emerging trends and represent the priorities of language providers across thebroadersettlementandintegrationsystem.ThispositionworkscollaborativelyacrossAAISA’sdepartments, to ensure knowledge on the language sector and to ensure its needs are representedacross AAISA programming. The Language Coordinator will actively strengthen the assets of theteamandprovide supportwhereneededbasedonshiftingconditions.


ROLESANDRESPONSIBILITIES

ENGAGEMENTWITHTHELANGUAGESECTOR

  • Leadquarterlymeetingswiththelanguagesectortosupportinformationsharing,coordinationofservices, andcollaborationonsharedissues
  • Gatherinformationonneedsandgapsrelatedtodifferentdeliverymodelsincludingface-to-face,hybrid,andonline teaching
  • Identify different needs related to small centre and urban language training provision, aswellasregionallyspecific needs
  • SupportopportunitiesforleadersinthelanguagesectorandIRCCtoshareinformationandcollaborate
  • Undertake all facets of meetings coordination, including facilitation, creating supportingmaterials,logistics,minutes,andreporting
  • Compileandpromoteinformationontrends,gaps,andneedsrelatedtolanguageproviders andservicedelivery
  • ProvidesupporttoIRCCwiththe LanguageDeckcall,as requested
  • Engageinregularmeetingswithlanguageprovidersacrosstheprovincethroughindividualsitevisits
  • Lead and attend meetings related to the Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA)implementation,providingguidanceandsupporttoPBLAtrainersandassessors,andfacilitatingdiscussionsonPBLA-relatedtopicstoensureeffectiveimplementationandongoing improvement


RESOURCECOORDINATION,KNOWLEDGEMOBILIZATION,ANDPROFESSIONALDEVELOPMENT


  • Coordinate the sharing of specialized expertise and support resource mobilization andnavigationwithinthesector
  • Support the identification of professional development needs, including those related todeliverymodelsincludingface-to-face,hybrid,andregularandongoing onlineteaching
  • Collaborate with the professional development team at AAISA to identify the professionaldevelopmentneedsoflanguageproviders,developanddelivertrainingsessions,workshops, and other relevant resources to enhance the knowledge and skills of languageproviders
  • Supportthecoordinationofprofessionaldevelopmentopportunities
  • Compileagencyinformationonprogramming,clientsserved,andinternalexpertiserelatedservicedeliverytosupportcoordinationandknowledgemobilization
  • Create resources and support the sharing of resources and relevant data with the languagesector
  • Research,develop,prepare,recommendandimplementnewprogramsandservicesrelatedtolanguageneeds ofthe sector
  • SupportaccesstorelevantAAISAtrainingandexpansionofrelevantAAISAofferings,throughcoursedevelopmentactivities


REPRESENTATIONOFTHELANGUAGESECTOR

  • Shareinformationfromthebroadersettlementandintegrationsectorwithlanguageproviders
  • Elevate emergent information within AAISA and relevant stakeholders, supportingresponsivenesstoneedsatalllevels
  • Participateinrelevantmeetingsandpresentationstorepresentlanguagesectorprioritiesandpositions
  • Representthelanguagesectorinactivitieswiththebroadernewcomerservingsector,including resettlementandsettlement serviceproviders
  • Promotelanguagesectorprioritiesinregionalandnationalplatforms


COORDINATIONANDPARTICIPATIONWITHEXISTINGLANGUAGEBODIES

  • Actively foster relationships with members and other stakeholders to build understandingofcontext,identifyopportunities forpartnership,andtailorAAISAsupports
  • Meetregularlywithpartnerorganizationstodiscussneedsandrequestsfromthelanguagesector,coordinateactivities,andidentifyopportunitiesforthepromotionofactivities andcollaboration
  • Actively foster relationships with members and other stakeholders to build understandingofcontext,identifyopportunities forpartnership,andtailorAAISAsupports
  • ParticipationinmeetingshostedbytoLARCC,CLARC,NLAB,ATESL,ERLAC,andtheCalgaryLINCCoordinatorstosupportinformationsharing andcoordination
  • Regularly engage in one-on-one meetings with relevant stakeholders, including FrenchLanguage/CLICprovidersandcoordinationbodies


OTHERDUTIES

  • Supportthemaintenanceofastakeholderdatabaseandensureup-to-datedetailsoncontacts
  • Makedecisionswithinan ever-changingsetofcircumstances,inpursuitofthestatedmission,vision,goals,andobjectivesoftheorganization
  • Performotherdutiesasassigned by AAISA management
  • ConductannualsitevisitstoagenciesinmunicipalitiesacrossAlberta
  • Contribute to broader organizational deliverables, including event planning for conferencesandmeetings

QUALIFICATIONS

  • ComprehensiveunderstandingoflanguageassessmentandLanguageInstructionforNewcomers to Canada(LINC)
  • Strongwrittenandverbalcommunication
  • Familiarityand/orexperiencewiththesettlementandintegrationsectoraswellas Canada’simmigrationsystemisanasset
  • Adaptiveandresponsiveinadynamicworkenvironmentandwithshiftingpriorities
  • ExperienceworkingwithWordPress,CRMs,Zoom,andtheMicrosoftOfficesuiteincludingTeamsandSharePoint
  • Personablewithstrongrelationshipbuildingskills

  • Post-secondaryeducationinarelatedfield

  • Direct experience in language programming to newcomers through either languageinstruction,assessment, and/or administration
