Engineering Site Designer - Jansen Project


Location: Jansen Project, Saskatchewan


Rotation: 14/7


Project: BHP Jansen Potash Project


Reports To: Engineering Manager

Key Areas Of Responsibility


Under the guidance of the site Engineering Team, the Site Designer will create, revise and finalizing drawings as required for the project. The Site Designer will also responsible to manipulate and extract information from the Client SmartPlant 3D models to efficiently convey critical technical information to others in the engineering and operations/construction teams.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Follow company/departmental procedure in the development of drawings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work within a project team to coordinate and complete designs.
  • Development of design drawings consisting of but not limited to: site plans, general arrangements, small temporary gear, blasting layouts, plans and elevations for surface and underground structures, sequence drawings, drawings to support lifting plans, as-built markups, etc.
  • Check for dimensional accuracy and fit up of engineering designs.
  • Prepare bulk material take-offs.
  • Be able to manipulate and convey technical information from the Client's SmartPlant 3D designs with others.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions for site and client concerns and suggestions.
  • Review and mark-up drawings for drafting and presentation purposes.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
  • This description lists the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbent's capabilities, on an as required basis, may be assigned by management.
  • Check drawings for compliance to company and governmental health and safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Liaise, collaborate, consult, and gather information from site and other departments.
  • Design and Drafting for temporary works related to the construction activities of the project.
  • Be accountable for drawing production and quality.
  • Create preliminary drawings and rough layouts or sketches.
  • Collaborate with the team lead, project manager and project engineer to develop design criteria and drawing layouts.
  • Communicate and interface with project engineering team.
  • Produce drawings that effectively and simply communicate the design and that comply with Cementation Engineering Standards and conform to job specifications with respect to clearances, tolerances and applicable codes.


Health & Safety


  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behaviour while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group.
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department.
  • Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology.


Travel Requirements


  • This position is a site based at the Jansen project, on a rotational basis


Supervisory Responsibilities


  • Has no direct reports.


Education & Experience


  • OACETT Registration considered an asset
  • Applicable Post-Secondary Technician or Technology Diploma
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Drafting and Design
  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Previous experience in Heavy Construction, Mining or Fabrication
