Job Description
Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. The IT Training Specialist plays a critical role in the support and adoption of technology and overall end user experience across all SIIT locations. As a member of SIIT's Information Technology (IT) department, the IT Training Specialist will be responsible for providing functional training and support to SIIT end users on SIIT's applications and systems. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for technical issues and will ensure end user issues are clearly identified and resolved in a timely manner either through first call resolution or through escalation. The IT Training Specialist is accountable for installing, configuring, and maintaining workstations and software across SIIT. Additionally, this position will play an active role in the onboarding of faculty, administration, and students into the Institute to ensure they are properly orientated and maximizing the full benefits of the technology investments made by SIIT. This position provides additional support as required and includes the following broad range of accountabilities:


  • Contribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by representing and participating on internal and external committees, as required
  • Install, configure, and maintain workstations, mobile devices, and software
  • Develop training and instructional materials, screencasts, and documentation for end users to reference
  • Work with the SIIT website administrator to develop the SIIT IT Training SharePoint site to ensure users can easily access training opportunities and materials
  • Ensure compliance with all SIIT corporate and IT policies and procedures
  • Receive, act upon, and document IT Help Desk tickets as required
  • Identify and report out of compliance activities with SIIT IT policies and procedures
  • Compile status and progress reports as required
  • Resolve end user IT issues efficiently and effectively through existing knowledge, experience, or research; escalate the issue as required
  • Provide formal and informal training as required to faculty, administration, and students regarding the use of SIIT-owned IT assets and core software and applications
  • Be willing to travel to SIIT's various locations to provide support and face-to-face training


Required Qualifications and Experience: Successful completion of a 2-year IT diploma with 2 - 3 years of IT and training experience; Microsoft certification is considered an asset. Must be able to lift 15 - 25 lbs. Incumbent must be willing and able to work flexible hours as required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. The incumbent must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation as travel may be required.
