Intermediate Structural Engineer Or Technician

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited is currently seeking an Intermediate to Senior Structural Engineer or Technician/Technologist to join our Structural team of dedicated professionals in our Woodstock office. The selected individual will work closely with team members and should excel at working in a fast pace, adaptive and innovative environment.

Role Specifics

This opportunity will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to be an integral part on a variety of structural design projects, while working with a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will be expected to work directly with our structural group to complete projects, as well as to meet directly with clients and other stakeholders to co-ordinate the completion of projects. The majority of the work will be office-based, but some travel to project sites should be expected.

While our Woodstock office is the main focus for this position, we will consider placement in another of our offices in Ontario.

More specifically, the position will involve carrying out the following tasks:

• Support project/client managers in establishing appropriate timelines for deliverables and work with design teams, throughout the offices;
• Ensure quality and timely delivery of project deliverables to meet the client’s needs;
• Collaborating with or leading multi-office and/or multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure project delivery teams are appropriately staffed such that the needs of clients are successfully met;
• Structural design and coordination of preliminary and detailed design drawings and preparation of related reports, construction reviews and liaising with clients, sub-consultants and contractors;
• Field investigations;
• Report preparation, research and completion of technical calculations;
• Client liaison and presentations, as necessary;
• Assisting in client development, project budgeting and preparation of proposals;
• Data collection;
• Analysis and design of structural projects including commercial, public and residential sites;
• Other duties as assigned
• Experience with reviewing structural damage and report preparation for litigation and insurance claims is an asset; and
• Prepare functional, preliminary and detailed engineering designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D;
• Prepare cost estimates, tender packages and project documents;
• Proactively advance design and modelling techniques to support designers, project managers and technicians;
• Contract drawing/specification preparation;
• Providing leadership and technical guidance to juniors and support staff and liaising with project managers and management staff across the company to ensure design quality standards are met;

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and mathematical aptitude
• An understanding of the Ontario Building Code
• A minimum of 5 years related work experience
• Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and function in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary consulting environment
• An understanding of CAD and BIM processes
• An engineering candidate shall have successfully completed a Post Secondary program in structural engineering or equivalent;
• Membership, in good standing, with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)
