We are looking for an Instrumentation & Control Technician to perform the installation, maintenance, repair, calibration, and programming of measurement and control instruments that are used at the aluminum smelter site in Kitimat, BC.

Reporting to the Automation Supervisor and working a Monday to Thursday, or Tuesday to Friday, 10-hour day-shift schedule, you will be


  • Utilizing SAP to enter work completion records, and preparation, ordering, and retrieval of parts lists
  • Using power and hand equipment, often performing work at heights which require climbing and the use of safety equipment i.e., harness, lanyard, SRL’s, man-lifts, scissor-lifts
  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards and engaging in safety initiatives, including lock-out/tag-out and isolation procedures
  • Working effectively as an individual and within a team, including communicating respectfully to all team members and stakeholders
  • Keeping your work area safe, clean and well maintained. Taking timely action to correct unsafe work conditions in your work area
  • Installing, repairing, maintaining, replacing, calibrating, programming, and servicing process monitoring and/or control instruments including indicators, recording devices, control loops and computers
  • Maintaining a continuous improvement focus by developing and participating in implementation of appropriate solutions to eliminate the issues/problems identified in the work area


What You’ll Bring


  • Willing to work varying shift schedules as assigned, including rotating 12-hour shifts (rosters include both days, nights, and weekends)
  • Experience performing instrumentation maintenance
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Instrumentation & Control Technician qualification
  • Valid Driver’s License (minimum of a BC Class 7 or equivalent)
  • High school diploma or GED
