Principal Accountabilities


  • Identify H&S training requirements and assist with the development and delivery of training programs.
  • Support locations in Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta with 40% travel required.
  • Provide safety leadership during outages and projects, with ability to direct contract safety resources.
  • Assist in driving continuous improvement throughout the company; ensuring that projects/facilities adhere to applicable federal and provincial regulations. Drive consistency across all organizations in the implementation of Global Standards.
  • Mentor and support plant leaders and personnel on health and safety topics such as high risk, work permitting, Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) program, confined space, working at heights, hot work, complex safety activities, etc.
  • Provide direct support to teams on identifying and solving worker health and safety challenges. Implement or recommend corrective actions where non-compliance is observed.
  • Development of site improvement plans stemming from Corporate Assurance and Critical Systems Audits or other H&S assessments.
  • Assist with site emergency response planning. Participate in development, execution, and evaluation of emergency response drills.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining their root causes and implementing preventive measures. RCA experience is a plus.
  • Lead routine review of Incident Tracking Systems (including trend analysis and remedial action validation).
  • Lead/Assist in Injury Management and Medical Issues. Understanding of Occupational Medicine, Workers Compensation, Return – to – Work (Light / Modified Duty) Program is essential.
  • Provide support during unannounced regulatory inspections and participation in post incident or announced regulatory inspections. Communicate with external health and safety regulators and insurance companies on safety matters as needed.
  • Provide general field safety guidance, interpretation, and support ensuring compliance requirements are met as it pertains to Federal, Provincial, and Local legislation.


Job Requirements


  • Proactive and autonomous.
  • Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiarity with Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Bachelor's degree or College diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. (i.e Safety, Industrial Health or Risk Management)
  • Expertise in understanding Canadian regulatory policies and ability to support safety policies in compliance with Air Products rules that are based on the American Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
  • Comfortable with delivering training and public speaking
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role in an industrial/manufacturing, oil & gas environment
  • Proven expertise and commitment in applying corporate safety policies and procedures
  • Bilinguism spoken & written (French/English) a strong asset, as this role will also support locations in Quebec
  • Excellent written communication skills (reporting, compiling information etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of provincial and federal safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices
  • Continuous Improvement facilitator training a plus (Cause and Effects, Mistake-proofing, Mapping, etc.).
  • Training and experience in incident investigation
  • Ability to travel to facilities across Canada (Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta) (40% travel)
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • First Aid Training as asset (but a requirement for all JHSC members)
  • Proven experience in site auditing, assessment, and coaching
