Job Description

The Opportunity: A newly created Health, Safety & Environmental position, with a highly ambitious mining company, to lead the safe development of several exciting projects where you will promote a strong safety culture and environmental excellence, and to hold all employees accountable to the highest standards.

Reporting to the the VP of Exploration & Environment, you will be the go to member of the team for all site based HSE activities, including all company employees and contractors.

Job title: Health & Safety Specialist
Company: Mining & Metals Company
Location: Based in Quebec across multiple sites
Roster: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
Salary: $105k - $120k plus benefits
Languages: Bi-Lingual (French & English)


Key Focus:

  • Applicable Codes of Practice & Canadian Standards
  • Monitoring the application of these documents by regular WHS work site inspections, contractor observations, and investigations.
  • Company WHS Management System
  • Ensuring company Health, Safety & Environmental standards across mining operations
  • Assisting in the establishment & maintenance of companies Site Safety Management Plans, Site Health & Safety Coordination plan, Site Emergency Action Plans, Environmental Plans and Procedures in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conducting employee and contractor safety inductions by informing and educating them on their safety requirements and obligations prior to commencing work on site.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise HSE site operations
  • Ensuring staff and contractors are operating in line with agreed methods of work.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with site stakeholders / contractors / workers

Core Competencies:

  • Contractor Management safety experience
  • 5 years minimum in similar role and mine site experience
  • Strong background in Quebec WHS mining legislations
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) - Desirable
  • Bi lingual French & English
  • Qualifications related to Health & Safety
  • Competent with risk assessment and safety strategies
  • Ability to liaise with Safety & Environmental Inspectors / Regulators, with Union Officials and representatives, & with auditors
