Job Description
Fortis Mining, Engineering, and Manufacturing is currently recruiting for a team player to fulfill the role of a Health & Safety Coordinator for an upcoming project with our client in Esterhazy, SK. The H&S Coordinator will promote a safe workplace by ensuring all work under Fortis control is performed safely by adhering to the highest of industry standards. This position will also ensure company management and workers comply with Fortis and the Client's expectations, policies, and procedures, and that all work is planned and executed according to Fortis, the Client, and legislated practices. This position is considered safety sensitive and therefore it is a condition of employment to pass a Drug & Alcohol test.

Key Responsibilities


  • Coordinate all incident investigation activities
  • Aid in the development of training, environmental security plans and emergency response plans, and communicate to site workers
  • Chair/participate in safety meetings
  • Advise Project Supervision on Health and Safety matters
  • Assist in the revision and implementation of standards, procedures, and programs, as required
  • Set a good example, demonstrate a positive safety attitude, and abide by Fortis and the Client's Health and Safety Policies
  • Incident/ event reporting and investigation, including spill reporting and follow-up
  • Perform regular task observations, coaching employees, and monitor compliance to all safety standards
  • Prepare and issue monthly and weekly Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) reports
  • Monitor quality and completeness of FLRA/5 Point Safety Cards and other safety documents
  • Perform regular workplace inspections


Qualifications


The ideal candidate must possess:


  • Ability to work on a rotation based schedule
  • Have an in-depth working knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and Saskatchewan Mining Regulations
  • 5+ years of experience in an underground Potash mine preferred
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Health and Safety Professional in the mining and construction fields (preferably within the Potash industry)
  • Preference will be given to the candidates with a recognized Safety designation, such as Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
