Thales provides world-leading Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) and interlocking for mass rail transit applications globally. The Centre of Competence for Urban Rail Signalling is located right before you at mid-town Toronto. We are looking for a Hardware Application Designer - Intern to join us for a 12 month internship at our Toronto office.


The successful candidate will join the Site Infrastructure Designs (SID) Hardware team to help with SID hardware CAD and documentation.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Promotes a harmonious working relationship among group members
  • Keeps track of progress on all assigned technical tasks, and regularly provides concise up to date status
  • Understands and reviews the Hardware architecture
  • Articulates technical questions in a clear and concise way so that it can be reviewed and approved by the management team
  • Deals confidently, courteously, and correctly with both internal and external people at any level
  • Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and knowledge in the primary discipline in solving problems
  • Completes work in a timely manner, and is confident to ask questions to help complete tasks quickly and correctly
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others
  • Able to follow instructions to carry out basic technical tasks and Hardware CAD for primarily electrical and some mechanical


Required Skills and Experience:


  • Candidate should be working towards a Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical or Computer discipline from an accredited program recognized by Canadian Professional Engineering licensing body
  • Able to work full-time for the specified term length - including 40 hours/week
  • A basic level of knowledge related to electrical and mechanical theory, systems along with a basic understanding of CAD
  • Thrives in a team environment, is an active listener, and is committed to personal professional development
  • High level of oral and written communication skills required for report writing and design justification


Preferred Skills and Experience:


  • Well-developed writing skills to prepare effective reports, documents, etc. in a clear and concise format
  • Positive attitude, sensor humor, and passionate about health, safety, and wellness
  • Knowledge and experience with CAD (AutoCAD preferred) from a 3rd year university level electrical or mechanical engineering course
