Job Description
Weldco Heavy Industries is a large steel fabrication and repair facility located in the Fort MacKay Caribou Energy Park, ideally positioned in the heart of Alberta’s Oilsands.


WHI is currently recruiting for a General Labour residing in Fort MacKay. The shift is 5 on/2 off, 6:00am -2:30 pm, no camp provided.


This position is trained on-the-job and works under close supervision from the Lead Hand. Under the training and tutelage of the Lead Hand, the labourer will adhere to instructions and learn about customer service, perform general labour and maintenance work and comply with workplace safety regulations and other Company policies and procedures.


Responsibilities, Duties & Tasks


Working under the close supervision of the Lead Hand, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


Janitorial and Facilities Maintenance


  • Ensures all walkways and doorways are cleared to avoid potential of slip or fall of personnel, subcontractors & customers
  • Ensures all office complex areas are cleaned on a daily basis and garbage is disposed of in approved containers (this includes but is not limited to offices, lunchroom washroom & locker rooms)
  • Perform periodic maintenance and cleaning as directed


Workplace Safety


  • Promotes and ensures workplace safety exists at all times
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work environment at all times
  • Complies with all safety rules and practices as set by Occupational Health & Safety, WHI and any and all other relevant safety regulations and requirements
  • Leads by example
  • Practices safety in the work place at all times to ensure as not to endanger oneself or others in the shop
  • Ensures the health and safety of oneself and each and every worker


Customer Service


  • Learns and provides quality customer service to co-workers
  • Responds to requests in a timely manner


Other Duties


  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications


Education:


  • Preference will be given to high school graduates
  • Must possess at least a Grade 10 education


Experience:


  • A minimum of 6 months of related experience


Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of general safety practices
  • General knowledge of basic tools and equipment


Skills:


  • Time management skills to productively complete work and meet all expected deadlines
  • Problem solving skills to methodically and logically work through problems
  • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination skills
  • Communication skills to read, write, listen and speak in a clear and concise manner to individuals at various levels
  • Analytical skills to identify problems and find a solution, or seek advice from the supervisors
  • Organizational skills to plan out and coordinate work in a logical manner
  • Interpersonal skills work collaboratively and cooperatively with others


Abilities


  • Follows instructions thoroughly and uses good judgement
  • Physically fit to lift items weight up to 20KG
  • Safety conscious
  • Learns quickly and is willing to ask questions
  • Self motivated to manage his or her time effectively and productively
  • Demonstrates strong work ethics (attendance, punctuality, reliability, honesty, etc.)
