Job Description
Stepping Stones Crisis Society is seeking a Full Time Food Services Facilitator to join their team.


The Food Services Facilitator develops and provides cooking and nutritional programming, both in the community and at Stepping Stones Crisis Society, as part of the Community Support Team. They will support the Stepping Stones Emergency Shelter Frontline team in the development and preparation of diverse and nutritious meals for in-house clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in meal planning, cooking, and kitchen operations.


Monday to Friday schedule with some evenings and weekend as needed. This role offers benefits, RRSP, and competitive compensation.


The Food Services Facilitator will be responsible for the following tasks:


  • Manage program budgets and provide monthly reports.
  • Create and update food resources and programs, such as handouts and manuals.
  • Cooking food in a safe and sanitary manner
  • Assist Stepping Stones Staff in the development and implementation of cost effective and innovative meal plans for the emergency shelter
  • Manage food costs and inventory
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to improve the food skills, food literacy and confidence of Stepping Stones Crisis Society Clientele.
  • Ensuring that all food is prepared according to health and safety regulations
  • Engage, supervise and support volunteers.
  • Maintaining the kitchen and kitchen equipment
  • Working with the kitchen staff to ensure that meals are prepared on time and that the kitchen runs smoothly
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen cleanliness and equipment functioning, ensure the kitchen is kept clean, organized, prepped and well presented
  • Plan and implement community food programs for targeted participant groups, including kitchen coordination, food handling, cooking classes and nutrition education.
  • Facilitate groups, building a safe and inclusive space for all participants.


To be successful in this role, you must have the following skills and experience:


  • The ability to manage several tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with meal planning, preparation and working within a budget
  • Experience working with volunteers and supervisory skills an asset
  • Standard First Aid/CPR
  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license free from restrictions
  • Knowledge and skills in food safety, healthy cooking and nutrition
  • Adaptable and dependable team player
  • Food Handler Certificate or appropriate equivalent certification
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with people of diverse cultures and abilities as well as those experiencing marginalization and poverty
  • A passion for great food and all things craft
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with program development, group facilitation and community outreach
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated & driven, positive with a high energy and excellent written and verbal communication skills
