Engineer Co-op Students 2023


Every year, West Fraser hires summer, co-op students throughout our Canadian operations in British Columbia, and Alberta. You will gain hands-on experience and training in the forest industry. Our summer terms vary from 4 months, 8 months or up to 1 year depending on your academic program schedule and how far along you are in your studies.

Typical Engineering Roles
  • Coordinate testing and maintain equipment inventory
  • Reliability
  • Energy
  • Mechanical
  • Coordinate maintenance and upgrades of electrical infrastructure
  • Influence sustainability policy and targets for environmental, social, and governance aspects
  • Implement and optimize process controls
  • Monitor equipment life, troubleshoot problems, and investigate failure

  • Plan, design, budget and manage projects
  • Continuous improvement of mechanical systems
  • Monitoring and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes
  • Develop and implement software for a variety of applications
  • Implement automation, instrumentation, and data systems
  • Combine practical troubleshooting skills, programming skills, and a basic understanding of the pulping process to maintain and improve mill operations. The ideal candidate has electrical or instrumentation experience in an industrial environment, with a working knowledge of DCS, PLC, and networking.
  • Communicate energy conservation best practices to a diverse audience
