EMC/EMI Test Specialist - High-Powered Laser Systems

About Your Next Career:


We are looking for a hands-on, experienced EMC/EMI Compliance and Test Specialist to join our Clients team to contribute in a meaningful way on some of the most complex and ground-breaking optics systems in the world.


You'll be supporting and driving EMC/EMI testing for their projection, audio, video, display and ITE equipment. Not only will you be involved internally, but you will have a unique opportunity of exposure to the entire industry. Your focus will be multidimensional analysis/design/test from board-level to prototype assembly, and system level product stages. With their products and systems utilized globally, knowledge of ANSI and EU Official Journal Standards will be required.


You'll have additional influence and collaboration with the entire product lifecycle team (both here and internationally) including Electrical Design, Software, Project Management and Compliance to the ensure design, product features and ultimately operation of these high-powered laser/LED systems are compliant, reliable and safe.


Given the nature of this role, it is an on-site position at our Clients Kitchener/Waterloo location


Main Responsibilities And Accountabilities
  • Work collaboratively with our multiple Product Development teams to ensure that updated test procedures and any subsequent training remains at the forefront.

  • Apply your expertise, curiosity and critical thinking to interpret and test methods including ANSI and CISPR standards, EU Official Journal standards and EMC standards, including
  • Support Engineering and participate in Design Reviews to identify and prevent EMC issues ahead of product final design
  • EN 55023
  • Actively participate with the Engineering Design Team in identifying and debugging EMC issues
  • Regularly communicate progress and technical issues with Electrical Team Leads and Compliance Management
  • Set up and execute product testing at both our internal test facility, as well as oversee at third-party test facility
  • Proactively keep up to date on the latest EMC test methods and regulation changes
  • Maintain detailed test instructions of troubleshooting steps and resolutions
  • Work with various calibration agencies to ensure test equipment is calibrated and fully functional
  • Troubleshoot test equipment issues, maintain internal validation and periodic verification of test equipment and the test facility such as maintaining integrity of shielded door, turn table and antenna mast mechanics
  • Develop and maintain up to date test procedures, test plans, EMC test reports and maintain knowledge of EMC regulations and standards

Skills And Experiences For Success
  • Oscilloscope used for calibration of ESD gun
  • Hands on experience with EMC test automation software like TILE!, EMC32, WIN 3000
  • Excellent time management, project prioritization and capabilities with troubleshooting
  • Proven experience with the calibration of equipment used for transient immunity including Surge, Fast Transient, Voltage Dip/Interruption, Harmonic and Flicker
  • Experience performing measurements with the following equipment:
  • Ability to lift between 20lbs to 50lbs. (as part of the job in the lab)
  • At least 5 years of progressive, direct testing experience in an EMC lab
  • EMI Receiver/Spectrum Analyzer
  • Ability to clearly articulate and communicate complex EMC/EMI subjects to varying stakeholders
  • Conscientiously applying organizational compliance standards, as well as industry standards and best practices, into your approach and work.
  • Experience with interpreting and following interconnect drawings, cable harness, and wiring schematics
  • Motivated, naturally curious, thorough, hands-on, critical thinker, and team player
  • University Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or similar
