Embedded Linux Software Engineer

Desired Skills and Experience

- Degree in Computer Science or related disciplines

- 5+ years using C/C++, Makefiles, GNU Toolchain and Shell programming in a Linux environment

- High level experience with Linux kernel modules, drivers and device-tree development

- Strong experience in developing, modifying and integrating open-source projects (OSS)

- Software source control tools such as Git, Subversion, etc.

Plusses

- Experience with TCP/UDP/IP and socket programming

- Experience working with Yocto based Linux distributions

- Experience with ARM 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.

- Experience working on Linux for complex embedded devices such as network firewalls, routers, etc.

- Experience reading and working with schematic/circuit diagrams as well as vendor-provided technical reference manuals and datasheets

- Experience in device configuration management and Preempt RT Linux

Day-to-Day

Insight Global is looking for an Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join the team of an industry leader in routers, switches, and common networking devices. This resource will be developing embedded software within the base layer and must be experienced developing and modifying the Linux kernel to support customized hardware in the embedded space.

They will be reviewing relevant requirements, standards and other documentation to clarify and understand software engineering requirements. As part of development, they will be performing unit testing to ensure delivery quality and adhere to the software development process through the execution of module, subsystem and system test procedures. This resource will also work within the process and procedures defined by the organization: reporting/recording bugs in tool, participating in daily stand-ups, planning and retrospective sessions, updating work items regularly in the process tool.
