CANS is currently seeking a qualified sales individual to fill the position of Education & Training Specialist.


The Construction Association of Nova Scotia (CANS) is an industry trade association representing the interests of contractors, suppliers, and service providers throughout Atlantic Canada and across the country. We represent 800 large and small companies that build, renovate, and restore non-residential buildings, roads, bridges, and other engineering projects.


This position will be responsible for identifying specific opportunities to both maintain and increase the development of the CANS Education & Training Program. Relationship-building, program customization and private education to members to meet departmental goals will be a large part of this position.


Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To


  • Perform various related organizational tasks as required.
  • Continuous research of industry trends for new training opportunities
  • Supporting and educating members on funding opportunities.
  • Prospecting potential leads, managing and achieving sales targets.
  • Meeting financial targets under the education budget, specific to private, customized training opportunity development, new programs and public training
  • Tracking and accounts receivable management.
  • Supporting coordination tasks for the successful execution of programs, this includes registrations, event logistics, course preparation etc. as required.
  • Managing competing priorities, while still meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work.
  • Building relationships with decision makers and owners to invest in the education program; promotion of Gold Seal Certification, Private Training and finding creative solutions for members to invest in education.
  • Outsourcing trainers, price negotiations, and trainer evaluation


Knowledge And Skill Requirement


  • Proven ability to deliver on projects, contracts, and desired outcomes.
  • Successful proposal writing experience.
  • Knowledge of basic math and accounting principles.
  • Highly developed organizational and time-management skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to experiential, lifelong learning, and professional development.
  • Proven ability to negotiate with clients, partners, government, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong prospecting skills and attention to detail.


Experience And Education


  • Bachelor of Commerce, BBA, or other business-related education/experience
  • Experience in sales / account management
  • Experience in the non-residential construction industry would be an asset.
  • A proven sales record
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, including community groups, business representatives, educators and government agencies would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a team focused environment.


Working Conditions

  • Travel as required.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional light lifting of up to 50 lbs.
