Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Development, the Director, Programming, Entertainment and Tenant Relations leverages our entire REAL District as a canvas for creativity and possibility through leadership and focus on utilization and activation 365 days a year making REAL truly the heart of our community and Province. Leading with a true sense of long-term partnership, this Director focuses efforts on increased revenue and greater brand recognition for REAL by participating in key decision-making in the creation, implementation and delivery of key initiatives that drive revenue growth through sales, planning, event management, identifying efficiencies and expense management with the goals of achieving operational excellence.
As a member of the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) Leadership Team, this role participates in the development and implementation of the corporate strategic plan, develops and implements department plans and a budget that supports the corporate strategy. The Director is responsible for directing, leading and overseeing all Sport and Recreation Programming, the planning, development and execution of Major Events and Entertainment, and the events of Major tenants to deliver measurable results that achieve revenue targets in alignment with business plans. This position is accountable for creating, offering and the procurement of customer driven sports, entertainment and event offerings through the pursuit of opportunities that are a fit with REAL facilities and infrastructure.
What You Will Do
  • Lead the development of new programming, leagues, and events owned and operated by REAL.
  • Lead the planning and management of major tenants and their related events including the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Regina Pats, FC Regina, U of R Cougars and Canadian Western Agribition.
  • Lead and participate in the full operational integration of any new line of business – organic or by acquisition.
  • Lead event planning with the entertainment, programming and tenant relations teams, provides strategic business guidance, problem solving, planning input, monitor event progress, overcomes obstacles, etc.
  • Overseeing Sport and Recreation facility programming and Leagues to ensure highest/best use of space and to maximize year-round occupancy, revenue generation and community benefit.
  • Identify enhancement of capacity and infrastructure that contribute to broadening the scope and scale of event hosting opportunities.
  • Work with all business units to identify & proactively initiate strategies to leverage REAL’s world class offerings to raise visibility and enhance REAL’s image on local and regional levels.
  • Leads post event reviews with the management teams of recent REAL events to identify issues and/or patterns (positive or negative), areas of growth and opportunity and initiate appropriate actions.
  • Work with partners to develop major event bids, presentations, and hosting opportunities. Supports the identification, regional position, and acquisition of major event delivery within the region and specific to REAL.
  • Leads and develops strong teams to carry out department operational strategies.
  • Oversee Game Day and Event Day needs of tenants and key program guests related to activities on REAL’s campus and specific to the delivery of this department.
  • Oversee new and existing lease agreements at REAL, evaluating annual lease fulfilment, coordinate all billing and cost management, reconciliations, and key lease delivery milestones.
  • Provide leadership to the programming, entertainment development and tenant relations team to review progress on the business plan initiatives and key performance indicators in each area.
  • Lead the management of signature/major events to ensure high quality delivery of planned outcomes and achievement of budget targets.

  • Exceptional skill in the identification of potential events, execution of sales initiatives, cooperative bidding on major events, economic impact analysis, and venue audits.
  • 7+ years business management experience with 3+ years of experience in a senior management level position with demonstrated progressive increase in responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully building, coaching, and motivating high performing teams while holding employees accountable.
  • Exceptional record of accomplishment in developing and implementing business plan strategies that have consistently met or exceeded planned objectives, providing personal leadership through example.
  • Administration and management knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of strategic planning, delivery of large sporting, entertainment, and agriculture events.
  • Experience in hospitality, sporting, events, and entertainment industries preferred.
  • Experience in the procurement process and customized bid development for local organizing committees that answer Events Rights Holders bid requests.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in marketing, business or related field or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
