The Opportunity
Clear Strategy is seeking an Account Director with interest and experience in policy and public affairs to join our team. Reporting to the Vice President of Policy and Public Affairs, this individual will serve as a core member of the Clear Strategy team in support of our client’s stakeholder engagement, policy, advocacy, and reputation-building efforts.
We are a fast-paced boutique agency, working with clients in Canada, the U.S. and globally in a range of areas, including consumer packaged goods, retail, food and beverage, agriculture and agri-food, circular economy and sustainability, tech and more. We are looking for someone who will play a critical role in delivering exceptional consulting services to our clients.
This role offers high visibility to clients, allowing you to have impact by helping to manage the day-to-day on accounts, shaping our client’s strategies and supporting the team in bringing our strategy to life.This is an exciting opportunity to work with, and learn from, our team of experienced public affairs professionals.
The ideal candidate is passionate about public policy, and understands how to use a variety of tools to help companies meet their policy objectives. They will have very strong written and oral communication skills, and a background in public affairs, public policy, stakeholder relations or strategic communications.
To be successful in the role, you have strong attention to detail, initiative, an ability to communicate complex issues to make them accessible to range of stakeholders. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter and willing to jump in on a range of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research (Canada and global) into policy issues, stakeholders, events and thought leadership opportunities of relevance to the team and our clients.
- Manage ongoing tracking and reporting requirements for clients.
- Provide insights and intelligence to help advance a client file or issue.
- Lead the preparation of written materials such as agendas , stakeholder maps, briefing and strategy documents, presentations and submissions.
- Help lead the development of strategy.
- Manage internal collaboration tools and feel empowered to identify areas for process improvements.
- Proactively monitor, interpret, and report on government activities, including the political, parliamentary, legislative, and regulatory landscapes.
- Monitor trends and developments on behalf of the team and clients, and discern where it isappropriate to flag relevant coverage.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- We work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, the ability to take initiative, be flexible and adapt is critical.
- Excellent grasp of public policy issues, factors that influence government decision-making, and parliamentary, legislative, and regulatory processes.
- Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Apply critical thinking, creativity, and industry knowledge to address client needs effectively.
- Ability to synthesize information and quickly produce relevant content (e.g. briefing notes).
- Experience researching and summarizing complex, technical issues for a range of internal and external audiences.
- Relevant professional experience in policy, public affairs, stakeholder relations and/or stakeholder relations.
- Curiosity, hustle, and a keen interest in growing and developing your skills.
