Job Description
Reporting to the Vice President, Community Medicine and Population Health, Interprofessional Development/Practice and Clinical Education , the Director of Interprofessional Development is leading a dynamic team of healthcare professionals focused on providing results and delivering expert services in adult teaching and learning, clinical team performance, knowledge translation and adoption of new practices, and library services including patient education resources. The Interprofessional Development portfolio has major impacts on improving patient care and experience by equipping people with knowledge, skills, and professional presence in a culture of compassion and continuous improvement.


Learners from high-school programs, under-graduate, graduate and post-graduate programs are coordinated through the portfolio. Learner programming approaches are aimed at creating high caliber experiential learning. HHS invests in learners recognizing their importance to the manpower needs of HHS and the health system at large, their valuable contributions to continuous improvement work and patient care services, and HHS stewardship to improve socioeconomic wellness within our community. The Director’s relationships are far reaching including, but not limited to, academic partners locally and internationally, the City of Hamilton and interests to support population health initiatives, and vendors/industry servicing HHS. Opportunities for innovation and business development are purpose built and supported in a jointly funded secretariat office with Mohawk College.


  • Member in good standing with an Ontario regulated health profession is preferred.
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to mindfulness practice is preferred.
  • Evidence of leading successful project teams with outcomes that create lasting and significant impact on improved performance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to utilizing research evidence and contributing to new knowledge generation through participation or leadership of research.
  • Business development experience preferred, and a track record of fostering innovation.
  • Minimally 5 years of management experience at senior levels in large and complex organizations preferably in the fields of health care, academics, or social services.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, written and oral communication, critical thinking, analysis, consultation and team building skills.
  • Education and experience applying lean quality improvement tools and techniques. Experience in organizations with well-established business process management systems is preferred.
  • Minimally a Masters degree with scholarship in adult learning, human behaviour and decision making, and human relationship.
  • Proven track record of managing complex change in organizations, and facilitating highly productive partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

The Community Medicine & Population, Interprofessional Development/Practice and Clinical Education Portfolio includes population health, seniors' strategy, ambulatory, complex and palliative care, and contributes to system wide transformative change. The Community Medicine and Population Heath Portfolio supports site activity at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Urgent Care Center, St. Peter’s Hospital and the Satellite Health Facility.


The Interprofessional Development/ Practice team has responsibility for practice standardization and improvements to quality and safety in the care of patients. Interprofessional Development/ Practice includes optimization of professional roles, support of healthy professional practice work environments, enhancements to clinical team communications and functioning as it relates to care of patients, development of people, nurturing experiences of new hires to HHS and students. Linkages are fostered with external partners such as professional associations, regulatory bodies, academic organizations, several other hospitals and service providers in the region and provincially. Interprofessional development/practice leadership is based upon the development of exceptional relationships, incorporating research evidence into our practices, and being visible and accessible to see and understand how we deliver care and create value for our patients


Schedule Work Hours


Generally, Monday – Friday business hours; participation in the Director On-Call roster begins after 6 months in the role.
