The Group Benefits, Claims Data team is looking for a Data Engineer with several years of experience; an innovative approach and a passion for data, analysis, and improvement. How Will You Create An Impact


  • Develop, maintain, and test data pipelines, application framework, infrastructure for data generation.
  • Help develop a system that transforms and moves large volumes of data from legacy sources to new ones.
  • Review and enhance or replace data reconciliation systems. Become a Manulife data expert; you will know where our data is, how it moves around and who is using it.
  • Work with business partners and domain experts to understand the context of our data to make informed decisions.
  • Write infrastructure deployment scripts using terraform.
  • Participate in proof of technology sessions to better our data strategy.
  • Work closely with data architect to figure out the best solution to architectural issues.
  • Perform data analysis and comparisons across multiple data sources / systems in support of time-sensitive business needs, provide insights and help team make more informed decisions.


You Will Bring And Continuously Build Upon


  • Experience in database designing and modeling.
  • Experience with ETL tools such as DataBricks, Azure Data Factory, Syncsort, SSIS or similar preferred.
  • Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features. Hands on experience in writing Jenkins CI/CD pipelines preferred.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to lead through creative abrasion.
  • Good verbal and written communication; efficiently articulates technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes.
  • Collaborative approach.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle.
  • Experience initializing and managing Data Pipelines on cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, etc
  • 3 to 5 years of related work experience in related technical environment.
  • Understanding of JSON files, Unix scripting.
  • Ability to work with both business and IT teams to understand the business needs and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Ability to experiment with emerging technologies and understand how they will impact what comes next.
  • A capacity for constant learning from both success and failure, remaining open to change and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with GIT commands and integration of GIT with EDL Databricks etc.
  • Experience writing complex queries/stored Procedures.
  • Understanding of any scheduler tool.
  • Solid understanding of coding/scripting with SQL, Python or similar technologies.

Salary & Benefits


The annual base salary for this role is listed below.


Primary Location


Waterloo, Ontario


Salary range is expected to be between


$72,450.00 CAD - $134,550.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
