Job Description

We are a online retailer located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada that utilizes the United States Postal Service, FedEx and UPS. We currently use a 3rd party courier that takes our packages from our warehouse in Canada and brings them across the border to the listed couriers above.

We are looking to begin delivering these parcels to these couriers ourselves however we need guidelines on how to go about doing this with the least amount of documentation required. I need to know if there are treaties or any way around this as any amount of documentation; especially if its per parcel adds significant costs to our processes. We have over 400-500 packages that are packed and delivered each day which will only increase with time.

We are looking to build out this system ourselves which will include cross border deliveries 6, eventually 7 times a week if possible.

Responsibilities

  • Determine if couriers accept commercial deliveries or pickups on weekends
  • Outline all documentation needed for products being shipped from Canada to the United States, ask questions on how to minimize documentation required for cross border delivery since we will be moving product across the border daily. Emphasize that all packages are being sent to 3rd party couriers.
  • Find ways on how cross border couriers (Crossborderpickups, Stallion Express) in Canada provide their services via the same method.
  • Outline the process of delivering packages to these couriers; ie, how to deliver totes filled with parcels to these locations (USPS, UPS, FEDEX). A cost benefit analysis for if it is cheaper to have a location in the United States where these couriers are responsible for picking up these packages themselves

Qualifications

  • Experience in cross border logistics (Ideally 5+ years)
  • An up to date understanding around regulations regarding exportation of goods from Canada to the United States.
